I do agree that JCA/VCA is org sponsored and thus will naturally end up being org-centered in the videos that get chosen and won. The biggest hussy fit was that Versus lost out to AMV Hell 5. Which, naturally, was sad. But it's not the org's fault that it happened. The viewers apparently liked it better. I [and several others around here] certainly didn't vote for it. It's not just the forum community that votes here. Out-of-forum users vote too.

I think the biggest complain is that the French/Russian editors don't get enough attention around here.

That being said, that NEVER happens completely unless editors just refuse to upload/announce/catalog their videos here. coLOLor was one of my favorite videos of the year, and I didn't know it existed until a few weeks back when it got nominated by Kosmit in the JCAs. It didn't even have a org catalog entry. Viewers/judges cannot be expected to wade through the thousands of videos that aren't even listed on a-m-v.org. That's what the announcement forum is for! Its for us to collect [over the span of the year] the best videos that were released. Heck, to even be considered in the contest, they have to have a catlog entry and check the box in the username field.

Do I think that France/Russia need representatives in the JCAs? Of course! LIke I said, there were ton of great videos that we wouldn't have ever seen otherwise. Do I want them to completely take over and have an international contest turn into the JCAs? No. I just want some people from different communities to share with us their best works that we wouldn't have seen otherwise.

THAT should be the purpose of the JCA/VCA contests. To share the best of the best. One completely org centered and one completely judge centered.

Just go to any amv contest and ask how many people actually know of the .org.

There's the proof that the amv community exists outside the org right there.

I would be more surprised if AMV HELL 5 didn't win considering all the packed rooms it filled last year.

Can't fight a name brand.

I never said you said anything, only that the discussion between you and godix was a contributing factor. The reasoning behind the decision to even discuss it is what bothered me. I'm all for having a larger contest that brings all the communities together, you just better not make the org be the central place that handles it.

godix wrote:I don't know why Nya and I talking about an 'international' contest started this. The very idea of that sort of contest is to be cross community and to draw people together who enjoy the same hobby. Nya and I were disagreeing on some things, but the fact we were having the conversation at all means we both are well aware there is far more to AMVs than just the org.

It didn't start this. As I said, it's a contribution of several factors that span several years. The VCA/JCA banter only made me decide to post something.

Vlad G Pohnert wrote:What so ironic is the JCAs where created more of like a "protest" against popularity vote of the VCAs. Kind of ironic that now people don't seem to agree with those results as well. wow.

Yes, lets create another contest because people can't accept contest results. we'll just keep doing that every year until we have so many contests it would be impossible for someone to disagree with them all. AMVs were about doing something enjoyable and sharing it with your peers. Winning a contest was just an extra perk. if you lost, you congratulated your peer and tried again next year.

CodeZTM wrote:I just want some people from different communities to share with us their best works that we wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Then the russian/french communities should have a larger role in the org community. As I mentioned in my rant, the VCAs/JCAs aren't meant to pick the best video ever created that year, they are meant to recognize those who are active in our community and support it. The VCAs aren't meant to introduce the org to videos from other communities. It may happen but that's not their goal. if the russian/french communities want to see more of their videos in the finalists then they're going to have to be more active here. Plain and simple. The org shouldn't have to bend to their will because they are upset about the VCA results. And the same thing goes for those communities as well. They shouldn't have to bend to our will if the situation was reversed.

If you want a contest that brings out all the best from each community, do what godix and nya want to do: make a new contest that serves that purpose. Just leave the org's VCAs and JCAs alone.

I agree with you to the point where the Russian/French editors need to get more involved. Like I said, we shouldn't be expected to wade through the internet looking for videos that they didn't want to share with us.

That being said, I still don't see why having some foreign presence in the JCAs would cause any harm. We have foreign editors that stick to almost exclusively a-m-v.org, but also have great AMVs from their own nations to share with us. Do we need to go arm in arm and create the ultimate international contest? No. We just need to share the greatest AMVs. AT least that's my philosophy behind the purpose of these contests. |:>

Well, Ironically as the person who runs the most AMV rooms and tries to profile as many AMVs as possible from all over, it sometime is not easy looking around the entire community to find those that might be missing here and there...

I think the point of the org was to have one big DB of all AMVs out there which would really be a HUG help when it comes to finding vidos.. that's one aspect that that the org is about.

Now the forums are a whole different thing and don't necessarily reflect the entire AMV community nor do they need to

I consider myself part of the russian community and yes, I agree with the fact that russian people needs to get involved more, but in a way I consider the language an excuse of why russian editors rarely come here. Or imagine the opposite case, you as an english speaker in the russian community. Even I as a foreign editor in the russian community and I talk with the people as I do in the org, and I don´t have any problem with the crowd.
