Wow, they're still deciding? How are the choices being made, may I ask?

Also, I know that you had certain problems playing my video. Do you know if that was ever a problem again?

Your video worked fine.
The decisions have been made.
It's just a matter of Gene typing and posting the list.

It sounds like it's going to be a good turn out. Makes me sad that I'm unable to go *sigh*

oh before I forget...for those of us who can't go will the results be up shortly after the con?

I have a strong feeling (after perusing the other editor's for comedy) that I don't stand a chance... but would appreciate it if the whole list was posted for the categories...if that's not too much trouble...*pout*

That's good news about getting together with the tech crew, it was kind of heartbreaking to have both my videos last year pretty much ruined by not having proper sound since they were both so lyric dependent.

I really wish I'd finished my NSFW video on time, but my darn friends had to come and drag me out of the house instead. Ah well, always next year.

My video at Ohayocon apparently had the subtitles cut off, the video is lyric dependent and in French... kinda glad I wasn't there to see people not comprehending it.

The Romeo X Juliet one right?
Anyway I can actually tell you why, for future reference. There's something called a "safe area", and anything outside of it when it's put on a screen will get cut off. It doesn't happen if you output a computer to a tv or monitor but it does if you burn it onto a dvd and do it that way.
In Vegas it's above the preview window in the Overlays (looks like a #) and it'll draw lines on the preview window. Anything outside the line gets cut off. (I also learned about this the hard way)

Yup.

I'm currently using Final Cut, so I should see if it has a similar function.

I've only been editing about 18 months so lot of technical details are new to me.

I think a lot of us learned that the hard way, much to our shock and dismay at cons.

Well according to that wiki article: In Final Cut Pro, users can enable both title and action safe overlays in the canvas and/or viewer by selecting the appropriate window and going to View -> Show Title Safe.
And like I said, I learned the hard way when at a con I realized with horror that I had important stuff on the edges totally cut off and it made the whole video look kind of like crap.

I will gather all the information and post as detailed a standings report as possible.
This will happen Monday if not after getting home Sunday night.
Also remember that I personally will arrange for awards to be shipped out within two or three weeks after Katsucon (will speak to whomever is in charge of our department's budget / money).
Of course we'd rather the editors be there to collect personally but you know... ;)

I wanted to go if nothing to see my video up on the big screen. Even if I don't place having people see it is still pretty awesome! unfortunately there wasn't enough change left under the couch to get me to Katsu this year but hopefully I'll be able to make the next one. I greatly appreciate any standings you can report or any feedback in general.

I have burned several videos to DVDs in the past, and never noticed any loss of image - but I WAS watching on a PC. Is it just playback on TVs, especially older TVs that do this? Projectors?
