Songs you can't disassociate with videos

Postby BasharOfTheAges » Sat Jan 22, 2011 8:02 pm

Here you go nate, another topic for ya.
So, I don't think i've seen this come up in a while... Here's the set-up. You're listening to the radio in your car, at a store, at work, etc. and you hear something that immediately switches the video on in your mind's eye. It won't go away. You find yourself pumped up, or laughing inappropriately, and you can't quite explain yourself.

What songs can't you separate from videos done from them?

My Examples:

This is really meta, but...

Sadly, also this:

James Brown - I Got You (I Feel Good)

I just can't get this hentai video to this song out of my head. Many of my friends that I showed the video feel the same way :uhoh:

<- I realize I made this video, but I know I'm not the only one who can't think of anything else now when they hear this song. In fact, as soon as I came up with this idea that's all I could think about until I actually made it...

There are a ton of videos I can't think of anything else other then the video when I hear the songs. In fact most of my favorite videos are like that. Basically every video in the top 105 vids on my ustream are like that.

I figure stuff you made is kinda a given (assuming you put any time into making it). That's pretty severe conditioning.

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

Soon after the release of AMV Hell 4, me & Corpsegoddess were out at breakfast, chatting merrily, and this song came on the radio. We both flashed back to SSGWNBTD's AH4 clip, which was to that scene in Grave Of The Fireflies with the kid lying down and dying. Instant downer. From then on, the song became known as "the song that ruined breakfast."

Almost all the AMVs I've seen have become irrevocably associated with the song.

EDIT - For me, Scooter - One will always be Nostromo's .

It was an IC... so the total amount of time that went into it was about 1.5 hours. Not sure you could really consider that the normal amount of conditioning that would make you think about those things. Actually, I spent most of that time jamming out to the videos being played on screen and interacting with the audience.... |:>

I forgot to mention that in my first post - not entirely directed at you, just seemed an appropriate excuse to mention it.

The excel pop up video is one for me...

Some of the videos listed above aren't because I've made my own videos with those songs.

Here are some more:

It just fits so well

When either song is played this pops into my mind

It doesn't matter which movie it is I see a Narnia trailer and this pops into my head

I have actually been catching this song on the radio

This was one of the first amvs I was exposed to, so I suppose it's fitting O.o

And the rest of these, I don't really hear on the radio so whenever I hear the song in a play list or whatever, the amv comes to my mind. I figure that these fit with the idea:

Mainly because I first heard the song because of the video. In pretty much all circumstances where I find music through AMVs, the effect occurs. Also depends on the song, though - if I listen to it a lot, then the association with the video will actually weaken.
