Can anyone help me find some missing videos?

Postby Altrus » Mon Dec 06, 2010 11:03 pm

Sorry if the question is a bit out of place, but I don't usually spend a lot of time in the AMV forum. Looking around at the other threads, I can see that is about to change.

Anyway, I often like to run AMVs through the tv system at my place when having parties and like that, and have gotten a lot of interesting feedback over the years. But recently my hard drive ate itself and I lost everything on it. I have been reloading from old cds and dvds, the videos I collected and used over the years, but I seem to have either never backed up a few AMVs, or else lost the one disc that had them.

There are two videos in particular I am trying to replace, but aren't hosted on the org anymore. Direct downloads are dead, too. These videos are "Cowboy Swing", by member UncleMilo and studio Cosmic Mule, and "Hungry Like The Wolf", by member Lostboy.

I found copies of both on the net, such as youtube, but those versions are recompressed so the image quality is really shoddy now. Does anyone know where I can obtain clean(er) copies of these two old favorites of mine? Or if you have it on your own drive, perhaps you can do a longtime convention and org fanboy a favor by posting to some temporary hosting site or something.

My thanks to everyone who took the time to read about my little problem. I hope you all find something awesome to watch today. Also, (you specific editors know who you are), thanks for making such incredible works of art. Not all have responded, but I am glad you like hearing about how my party crowd enjoys your works :)

I'd like to get these 2 videos as well. :)

Lousy quality, but it's what I was able to find...

Whoa, now those are two videos I haven't seen in a while. Unfotunately, I only have one of them, and it's also Hungry Like The Wolf.

This one is a little bit better quality. :)

Wow! OK, thanks to both of you who went the distance to try and provide Hungry Like The Wolf! Mcdirty, yours is how I remember it, I don't recall titles in front of the video either. Maybe Lostboy updated it after it's initial release. And the video quality is about what I remember with your copy too. Definitely an early-era AMV, but the video itself is appealing enough that I like to include it in the home showings. Even on the large screen Panasonic where the grain shows out.

Now, if only we can track down a cleaner copy of Cowboy Swing...

PS: DOKI - Not sure if I ever sent you a message just to say I am a fan, but your videos are a regular crowd favorite at my place :) We are always impressed with your lipsynch skills and creative talent. Last party I had, everyone pulled out their iPhones and gave me a look. It's always a good day when a new doki video hits the org.

I'll have to scour my library to see if I can find a copy. I think I have about 6 different versions of Hungry Like the Wolf (at least 3 for sure) which 2 of them have already be posted I'm sure of. Just need to remember to search when I get home.

Thanks. :) Sorry I have nothing for this year... :(

Now, if only we can track down a cleaner copy of Cowboy Swing...

My directory with his stuff seems to stop a couple of videos before that one. :( Hopefully MJ can help.

Thanks for adding your own time to the effort, Vlad! I sent you a PM, along with a personal note attached. Sounds like more people than myself is interested in these early-era AMVs.

I don't have a copy of Cowboy Swing, I apparently have a large hole in the 2002 year as far as contest entries go. Though I do have a 720x480 version of Hungry Like the Wolf (it's a 177 meg file) which has a bit of credits in the beginning, as well as my original version which doesn't.

I'll PM you the info to DL the video from my server.

OK everyone, if you wanted this video yourselves, (I'm looking at you, Castor Troy), then make sure you thank Vlad G Phonert. He really came through for me, giving me a really good quality copy of Cowboy Swing. That was a 400meg copy, and when I re-coded it for my dvd party mix, it ended up at 182megs. It still looks great, so I uploaded it here, for anyone else who wants a copy:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LAMU2ILT

If you want it, and intend to keep it, please send Vlad a quick PM to thank him for going to the time and trouble to dig through his own archives and post it for me.

Someone I know suggested I put my party mix dvd iso files on Mega for anyone else who wants them. If enough people are interested, I might just decide to, so drop me a line if anyone has any interest.

Once again, thanks to everyone for helping a fellow fan out! I wish I could spend more time within this awesome org community.
