I've done this before, actually. And I may do it again, there's another video I feel has an awesome idea but awful execution. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you give the correct person(s) credit for the idea. I can see how some people may find take offense to other people redoing their videos, but honestly, I say just get over it. No idea is original, and so long as proper credit is given, you should be happy that someone found your idea intriguing enough to want to see it done right in their eyes.

The only time I've used scenes from another amv was parts that weren't edited at all, edited parts would just be cheap and wrong imo, unless it was somehow suppost to be part of youre video's theme, like some sort of parody etc. It isnt that bad if you give them credit, I mean technically it's almost the same as using an anime intro in your amv or maybe even the anime itself because those were all made by someone else.

There's no problem. That's like the use of effects. Just because I used an effect doesnt mean that nobody else can use it too. In the same way, scenes from animes in amvs can't be owned by anybody.

Crow, what about extending an incomplete amv from an editor?

No. We are the remix culture. We take things edit them and create better or entirly new things.

It's alright as long as you never deny the idea's origin.

Its funny to hear people mention Ermac still. I mean yea he did wright the one guide with AD but i guess if you retire at the height of your popularity people will keep talking about you like your some sort of phantom.

I do say if you can do better then by all means do the video but don't be surprised if it gets compared to the other one.

I had a few diners with Ermac he was a amv editor like a lot of the other ones ive met. I even think i briefly remember meeting Kevin Caldwell at ax 2000/2001 (whenever was his last year) and yes he was a normal human being.

But hey i don't think we've seen the last of Ermac he's still arguably a part of this community (though i remember him not showing up to the AMV creators panel at AX one year cause he was playing WOW)

and something else.....

and just to fan the flames of conspiracy a bit

If I said yes would that stop you/others from doing it?
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

In the store I work at, they've been playing The Beatles ever since they came out on iTunes. I work full-time 8 hours a day.

WHY WON'T THE BEATLES JUST LEAVE ME ALONE?!

I thought about making Fundamitternachtum into an actual AMV, but the problem is I only have a third of the sources atm.

You should be so lucky. At least you got quality music at work. I got shitty radio station where they didn't play a single good song.

well, technically as mentioned I dont know of too many creators that ask permission from the original artists that made the source material we use so it's kind of a moot point there in that sence.. However giving them credit is not a bad idea as most do techncially list sources or music used in the AMV...

I personally like to ask anyways, but all I'm saying is that techncially we rip and don't ask for the original footage so it's hard to really comment on the ethics on using someoen else footage from an AMV
