Funny how not too long ago was wondering whether or not you ever finished this video. I really enjoyed the beta you showed me on the IRC and I liked the finished product even more.

Good stuffs godix

It's one of my favorite series and this is probably one of the most beautiful videos of it. You really made justice to this anime.
The song is beautiful. The technique is really original and it's kinda perfect for the way you tell this story.
I'm just a bit sad that you didn't stick with the same technique till the end, but I still find this video perfect and awesome <3

Thank you. The ending style thing was meant to A) not be boring repeating the same trick the entire time and B) to give a more open and free feeling once they become a couple. When you say on youtube, I'm assuming you mean the AKROSS youtube channel?

Yes I kinda thought that was the reason :)
Yes, the AKROSS channel :P

lokitocatracho wrote:Sorry for not posting my full comment: When I first heared you were joining I thought you were going to make a comedy. But the fact that this romance amv was edited in a different resolution, considering that usually akross entries are 720x480 or 640x480, was very clever. And for the feeling, I never got bored or get the feeling that something was missing. Pretty enjoyable, and now, we only have to wait until the results are up

Thank you for the comments. Glad you enjoyed it.

EvaFan wrote:I had a difficult time enjoying this, same problem as nya's vid. I just don't see the point of using video panels like this and would rather watch a full screen with FX or something. Maybe it's cause thats just the way it usually is and I'm used to it but I doubt it. The source and song looked like it worked well but eh, I just can't get into these panel vids.

I can understand that. It can be rather confusing and a jumbled mess. Which is why I had so many beta testers, I kept worrying that I was going overboard and getting too complex. So yeah, I can understand people who don't like the panel thing

TwilightChrono wrote:Very interesting concept. I enjoyed it. It was something I haven't seen done before, at least not in any videos I have seen. Kept me interested throughout. And thats saying a lot coming from me because I generally tend to stay away from Romance AMV's. I'm more of a fast paced person myself. Though I have been known to edit one on a rare occasion.

I applaud your efforts.

I would be very interested to know what exactly your timeline looked like after completion.

Thanks. I usually hate romance vids too actually. Just since I was experimenting, I figured I'd do a genre I'm not used to either.

As for the timeline, it actually looks pretty boring. Each pane was in it's own sequence (with settings of 320x480). The master sequence just had these nested in it. On top was a mask with the black bars between panels. Despite how complex the video looks, it's actually pretty simple. It was sometimes difficult to keep track of what I was doing in what pane though since the process feels kinda like editing 5 videos at once. Technically I could have done it all in one sequence. That would have required 10 or more tracks and, more annoying, would require motion controls on every clip to put it in the right spot. With the sequences I only had to do motion controls once per pane. If you don't know what I'm talking about (and if you have an early version of Premiere you probably don't since it couldn't do this), it looks like this:

You might find it amusing that at least one of the betas was named "what does godix know about romance he's getting divorced"

So... Who wants to take 5 widescreen monitors, turn them sideways and connect them to some SLI'd video cards so see how this would look in a 180 degree horseshoe configuration?

wOoo I like experiments. Definitely a neat way to incorporate internal and external sync. One drawback is you can't focus too much on a single pane, so at times it's not clear what you should be looking at. But that's not necessarily a bad thing depending on how you look at it. In some cases I would say the style overrides what's actually going on, particularly when there was lots of symmetry. This makes for good review-ability, although the music gets a little repetitive. Then again, sometimes "repetitive" can be interchanged with the word "catchy" if you're in the right mood...

So yeah, Alegria!

Liked it already when I saw this on Akross site and yup, I still like it. I can't concentrate on all of the panes with the same intensity so I loose a bit of the AMV here and there but it doesn't spoil the whole thing.

The panes remind me of one of those rooms with lots and lots of mirrors which is slightly strange but pretty cool. :awesome:

Anyway I really really liked this vid :D The panes made it original and a bit different from your typical Romance video and although it's hard to concentrate on all panes at once, I thought it wasn't too difficult to do, so I had a good time watching this.

Actually, that would be cool as all hell.

You loved something without shinkai in it? I am astounded. Thanks.

I tried using colors, saturation, and movement to direct the eye to which pane I wanted it to be on, but yeah, it can be rather difficult to pick up exactly what's going on in some of the spots. I think I rushed the jail breakout part too much for example. As for the song, for some reason I really like it. Even after literally months of working with it (and months of ignoring it entirely), I still like the song. I think it's the first time I've ever edited a video that required effort and I still like listening to the song after. Which is very strange since it's not exactly my favorite style of music actually.

Thanks. A lot of the panes are meant to be throwaway background scenes where it's perfectly fine if you miss it anyway.

There's only so long I can think along 5 different tracks at once before I start developing multiple personality disorder. Are you trying to drive me crazy?

Nice story :> I wish if they didn't die in the anime too. And cool screen concept though it made me feel dizzy trying to concentrate on those screens ^^;
