I actually thought the top post had a bit of a "scare the competition away" undertone to it and was greatly amused by that fact. :asd:

Really great post man, even with your "final words", this was more motivating than anything else to me.
I'm currently studying Film & Visual Design (2nd year), and get to work as both editor and director, both separately and at the same time. And it is really thrilling and I AM looking forward to be, perhaps, working with this professionally in the future.

As my plans look now, I will be joining up at a, at the time, small film company founded by some of my old upperclassmen.
Working up through entering various film festivals and also by doing comercial shots for various (minor, but needing) clients, it'll not for starters be a company with any economic gain besides budget for future short film productions - but will, hopefully, slowly but steadily rise up in said "industry" at some point.

Call me naïve, maybe it's all a childish dream of some sort. But hey, at least I'm giving it a shoot.

and the problem is??????

nah, that´s why I decide to study administration, there is nothing better than being your own boss, (and being able to work anywhere)

I'll add on to what Beo and what some of the other pro editors mentioned by Castor have said:

1) Castor is dead on about process and earned income potential.
2) This is why I stopped editing for money. Freelancing is fucking HARD. It's HARD WORK. I have made vastly more as a teacher and work significantly less, even though I take my job seriously and do my best for the kids.

Will also toss on:

3) I was located in Austin and then Atlanta. Castor is absolutely right about that too. The culture helps. A lot. If you're out in bumfucksville, you might be able to line up some weddings... >_>

Oh yeah, I forgot that wedding video editing pays quite well but you need your own gear.

At least that's kind of a stable market. :ying:

Bumfucksville seems like a good place for a wedding.
