Thanks for that, man. The Why Should I Stick Around vid was damn fun to watch. I wish I had caught it back in the day. The Only One was pretty damn beastly, too.

Seems I've missed a good share of badass vids. Not that it's bad, though. I get to be entertained all over again all n00by-style.

Damn artbooks are pain to find and when found are expensive. A friend had Akemi Takada's artbook "Madoka" she found at convention years back...but has since "lost" it. (I assume one of her roomates jacked it upon seeing what the artbooks fetch on e-bay) Between Akemi and Izumi, I'd die a happy man if I could just get one of each of their artbooks for KOR.

At least I have Kazushi Hagiwara's (Matsumoto's Assistant) Artbook for Bastard!! and Guardress.

Appreciate the upload, Kionon. =)

Glad to see another fan of KOR around. I was feeling lonely there for a bit. D:

You're sorta out of the loop aren't you?

I'm considered the world's biggest KOR fan. By the Japanese fans, as well as Takada Akemi herself. I have the largest KOR collection ever amassed by a single person. I have spent over $5000 on KOR merchandise alone. I haven't had much luck getting an audience with Matsumoto Izumi, since he has been pretty sick for the last couple of years. I did manage to get Toyama Prefecture to send me his new KOR PSA posters though.... Vlad has a Madoka sketch from Matsumoto, I am very envious. He wasn't sick at the time, I guess (though the latest news is he is doing much much better).

I bought La Madonna from Takada Akemi in Shibuya in Tokyo May of last year. She also drew her famous cat logo with her signature on it. She also signed my copy of Madoka, which you mention above.

I have a lot of KOR on LaserDisc. About half the series on JP LD, the OAV JP Boxed Set, and the OAVs/Movies from AE on LD. I'm in negotiations to get the AE TV set. Of course, I also was preorder #6 on the DVD Set, and own the R2 Remasters.

To get a sense of how massive my collection is, look here: http://ayukawamadoka.blogspot.com or look in the "show us your rig" thread. Plenty of pictures show how my living room is just overwhelmed with KOR.

You know, I do collect duplicates, and some stuff is common enough that if you really want something specifically, I can get it for you. Assuming you pay for shipping from Japan and provide me with a very modest finder's fee (don't buy KOR stuff on ebay! They know US fans do not know the market value of these items here in Japan and they will gouge you badly!).

My friend, you have no idea. As far as hardcore fans go for KOR, I'm slightly above entry level. Just to know enough to get in trouble. Ha ha!

Good lord. I want to say I envy you...but I'm surprisingly happy you managed to amass such a collection. I guess it's like knowing your favorite artworks are safe in a museum or some other vague analogy that applies.

That would be awesome. I'd gladly pay! I don't mind working deals that please both parties. Maybe if I can get enough of a collection going myself (I plan to join the navy soon and may get to travel a bit) we can do some swaps for rares. I'm getting ahead of myself there, though. *Doubts he'd find much that Kionon wouldn't have*

Navy is gonna be win. I'll have lots of monies being in Cryptology breaking codes and shiz.

Then I'll paint life-sized copies of all the KOR characters on the walls of my billiard room. Which is going to be located inside my massive mansion.

Step 1:) Navy

Step 2:) ????

Step 3:) Billiard room in mansion

I say I have a valid business plan.

Also, reevaluate your business plan. Especially if you're enlisted. You won't make that much money off the bat. And remember, officers don't get all the allowances, but they rate better housing, a better starting pay rate, scholarships, etc. And if you're really interested in a career, you should look at going the officer route. Not to say you can't have opportunities enlisted wise, but...

This is way off topic.

lol, I was worried you were anti-military and went the humor route.

Hurr hurr. Quite the date you had there. =) Snazzy outfit. =P

I plan to go Officer as soon as possible...I already have an associates and plan to rack up as much school added onto whatever they are schooling me in. (I'm thinking of going linguist since the sign-on bonus is second best next to Nuke) I would PREFER to be an Officer going in, but I really don't have much of choice at this point. I have to move past crappy minimum wage jobs and the occasionally bad paying programmer gig. Yay for worthless associates degrees.

Dunno, may actually go Nuke route if it helps me hit officer faster. (E3 going in and E5 after A-school sounds pretty good to me. Tacking on the high sign-up bonus helps.) Been thinking of maybe going the nuclear sub route and later in becoming an instructor in nuke school.

I'm honestly the type of guy that can do pretty much anything, so I really have trouble setting good goals. What do you think? Nuke the best career wise and fast track to officer as far as enlisted is concerned? A woman told me that her experience in the navy as nuke equaled out to 2 elective credits in college. I'm hoping she's very wrong.

You couldn't pay me to be a Nuke. Literally. I mean, there are the Nuke bonuses, and no thank you. Be an enlisted nuke if you want to do your four years, get out, and get a job at a nuclear facility somewhere. DON'T go nuke if you intend to make the Navy a career. I have never met an enlisted nuke who ever said they wanted to do the job for twenty years. As an officer, likewise, I have never heard a Surface Nuke officer (submariners are a whole 'nother ball game, and I am not even remotely qualified to talk about it) ever say they liked the job. They did it purely for the money, and if they do stay in twenty years, it's because you can really, really bank as a nuke officer. You'll also work your arse off, and traditional surface benchmarks (DIVO, DH, XO/CO Fleet Up [command]) occur much later. Not that surface nukes can't do traditional surface officer stuff, but it's harder to fit it in.

SQ is an AN, so if you want a real enlisted perspective, you might want to talk to her. I don't know really much about the specifics of the e-side besides the power point presentations that include information officers have to pass down to their sailors. My experience, little as it is, is entirely on the O-side. Remember, officers are generalists, and they'll never know as much about your rate as you do (unless they're prior enlisted, from that rate, or were chiefs that ended up as limited duty officers). If I was your DIVO on a surface ship, I might be in charge of your division, but I may not really have any idea what you do, at least not at first.

How old are you, how much work do you have to do in order to get a BA? If you're young enough and within two years of your BA/BS, I really recommend applying to the BDCP program and skipping enlistment entirely. You'll get a scholarship and a guaranteed slot at OCS. And you'll be paid the same as an E-5 monthly while you are in school. If you are young enough and have more than two years, you should do what I initially did, find an NROTC unit you can join. You'd be surprised how many NROTC units serve more than one university (like Rice's, which serves a number of colleges in the Houston area, known as the "Houston Consortium") it's very common for an NROTC unit to serve at least two universities. If you can't get a scholarship off the bat, and this economy means it is harder, you can apply each semester in case one of the current scholarship holders drops on request or loses their scholarship either because of failure to maintain grades or failure to keep out of trouble. It happens more than you would think.

If you're seriously interested in pursuing either NROTC or BDCP, let me know, and I will hook you up with an officer recruiter to discuss your options. Oh, and PM me. We've messed up waffle's thread enough.

I skipped from page 2 to 5 and we're talking about the military? :uhoh:

This reminded everyone that DBZ vids were salvageable. All it took was a little creativity and some snazzy editing. Also, Fight Club.

But even before This Is DBZ Life, this prized jewel came out and I was inspired to new levels.

Imo, this really increased the popularity of random action, especially random action naruto and a bit of the editing style was influential. As well as the use of the song.

Where can I watch Jim Kaposztas's Star Blazers/Beatles AMV from 1982? Was this really influential, or just an auspicious sign of things to come?

I'm not saying that we're all entitled to the rare gems in people's AMV stashes, but something like that needs to be preserved and shared for history's sake, IMHO.
