Exporting then... importing?

Postby Glitzer » Mon Sep 06, 2010 3:36 pm

I have an exported raw avi file using debugmode frameserver that's about 15 gigs in size, and I was wondering if I could import that back into premiere pro, make a few tweaks, then re-export that without losing any video/audio quality?

Thank you for your time!

In theory, probably. You'd probably have to open up another instance of premiere to do that (though remember I'm still using 1.5 where exporting locks out everything else). Since debugmode is a frameserver and not a codec, you won't lose any quality. I'd suggest making the small edits in your main project, and then frameserve that to vdub/meGUI/Zarx264GUI/what have you for encoding.

It makes me wonder though, why is debugmode frameserver giving you a 15GB file?
It shouldn't be that big (in fact, it should be really small).

Sweet.

You probably don't remember, but many months ago you suggested debugmode frameserver to my purely because the exported file was 15 gigs, and Premiere Pro CS4's media encoder didn't like files being exported bigger than 5 gigs or something to that effect. I looked all over the adobe forums and everyone pretty much said I'm screwed, but debugmode frameserver was my salvation. The reason the exported file is so big is because the source footage is 720p with a flac song.

I kept the original export while deleting the project within premiere. A while later, to my dismay, I noticed some glaring lip flap that I failed with and now I'm trying to remedy it for a convention.

Thanks Kariudo, I'll get right to work and see how it turns out!

Oh man I feel dumb Kariudo. It does give me a small file, but I was meaning after I run that small file through VDUB I get the 15 GB file. Skipped a step in explaining there, sorry  so ya, perhaps a better question would be after I ran it through VDUB by using debugmode frameserver to go from premiere pro to VDUB, will I lose any quality from importing the AVI file (15 GB) I got from VDUB? Since it was uncompressed I had my hopes, but it wouldn't surprise me that after recycling it through again that I would lose something.
