More webspace for donators?

Postby Bauzi » Tue Aug 24, 2010 5:58 pm

Okay...

HD is already here and video file sizes can get quite big. It's not easy to get under the 100MB mark with 1080p for local webspace. I would instantly donate for the ability to upload videos up to 200MB on local.

How about you? Do you think about this suggestion?

I would really apprecite it!

200MB is too much even for 1080p AMVs. The current limit is pretty much fine, maybe adding an extra 20 or so MB at most might be fine just to play it safe, because with proper x264 settings, getting a 1080p AMV under 100MB should be pretty easy unless you abused some big and fast grain for the whole thing. And even then it might be possible to still get it barely in by using the fgo patch... or maybe not. But I doubt most AMVs abuse grain like that, so it would be an exceptional case that falls in the big upoloads requests, certainly not worth increasing the limit for every vid.
Couple it with the fact that 99% of anime is SD or even if HD just 540 or 720, and you understand that most 1080p AMVs are just upscales not worth the space in either case, so yeah... I'd say no, but I'll leave the last word to the admins. :asd:

Hmmm... I see. :|

Uhm... yes. That makes the 2:30 min to a 500MB monster. I think I'll have to look for this "fgo patch".

Try something like --fgo 10 and increasing if it's not enough (or perhaps decreasing, haven't actually used it yet, so I can't tell for sure). Also, toying with the deadzones might be of some minimum help too depending on your trellis setting.
Still, if it's like 500MB, you might still end up with like 300MB or so, I guess... Mister Hatt or JEEB would be more of help, here. :asd:

As Mirko pointed out ... Do you really need it in 1080p anyway? (The main word is need, not want) 720p ought to be fine for online distribution anyway.

If you can then why not? If he's doing stuff that warrants it then by all means 1080p galore.

Original animation, you mean? Because, like I said, most anime Blurays are upscaled from 720p, so 1080p is not actually something you should do. It's not about "need" as much as about "making sense," really. Upscaling DVDs to 720p is already bad enough, this would be no different, really...

Ofcourse. I'd even go so far as to say that even if he's using something that's a 720 to 1080 upscale. If everything he's added to it himself is native 1080. Then there is no reason to not go with 1080. I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd love to see his added work in its actual 1080 glory. Even if underneath all that some of the stuff is but a mere 720. ;]

I'm not sure... the difference in blurriness/sharpness might be jarring and detracting from the experience, actually. But I guess it's a matter of preference by then.

The video was a test if I can do 1080p videos with my system. Obviously I was able to pull one of.

I thought on this video: F*** the noise in the anime. If I would've cleaned it up than it wouldn't be as enjoyable in 1080p. So what did I do? I added MORE noise and grain to create a visual stlye. It eats tons of MB/s, but it's really worth it and it looks gorgeous in 1080p for me. I think this style of grain and noise adds a whole new level of depth to it that is already lost in 720p.

I'll have to upload the 720p or even a 480p video on local due to the file sizes.

Bauzi you can file a request for a higher limit for this specific video. Just not for ALL videos for EVERYONE. I'd highly recommend doing so.

First I need to make a decent encode that has a good filesize and well... I can't play the current version with my system. I won't upload a video that I can't even play with a 2.46Ghz dual core on local :|

But you're right! I have to try this request :o
