To my knowledge, yes but I don't know first hand. I don't take my laptop to staff meetings so *shrug*.

Apparently from this thread it's free in the hotel lobby but not from the various meeting rooms.

I keep trying to give these a chance and I keep getting disappointed.

I went back and listened to the segment you're referring to again. I feel you are quoting this out of context and at the same time interpreting what I said wrong. If my statement of calling the act of skipping a video outright based on it's label as a judge 'childish and petty' made you feel like I was talking about you personally then that was not the intent. I rarely ever write my statements up before talking about it on air but rather let my passion take over as I talk about it. In light of listening to myself again (I don't like to hear myself talk actually, I ramble on and on I feel) perhaps I would have benefited from having written that statement out beforehand. This wasn't meant to lash out against anyone who had a differing opinion, but instead to state my own. Sadly I didn't have anyone else on who felt differently about the issue, and after the fact I wish I did for the same reason I stated when I ended the segment, we're just beating a dead horse.

I just feel passionately about editing and general overall fairness. It seems my passion may get the best of me in the heat of the moment and possibly turn people off to what I have to say. That much I can apologize for. I'm trying to be as un polarized and open as I can be on the show, but I just felt way too strongly about my position to not state it on air. I'm trying to work through my shortcomings in order to provide a fun and informative podcast about this hobby that I love so much. If my passion has turned anyone off from this podcast I'm sorry. That is not my intent. I am willing to work on these things but unless I get feedback like the one above I can't see what I've done in order to correct it in further episodes. So thanks for pointing that out.

"Someone else came in and said 'Well, I skipped those videos, you know, they should understand that when you submit a video with that type of content, you know no one's gonna watch it.'

"That kind irked me. 'Cause as far as I've always understood the competition is, you enter the competition, you're a judge. And as a judge, that sounds really petty and childish to not watch every single video because as a judge you're expected to be unbiased, you're expected to watch every video, whether or not you like the video, I mean, there's so many videos I watch when I'm judging for other competitions, when I do basic pre-judging for Youmacon, for ACen this past year, there are so many videos I would not want to see once, I have to watch it 10+ times because I take my job seriously as a coordinator, as someone who is judging these videos based on content, on, you know, all the pre-judging and things that way do, I take that job seriously, and I watch every video, and if they videos suck, okay it sucked. If it had low quality, okay, it had low quality. If the video was really fun, really engaging, had good editing techniques, I'd go with that, even if I didn't like the source material, even if I didn't like the audio, if I, you know, if it's the 20th Death Note video in the competition, I'd still watch it 'cause that's what I'm required to do as a judge. And so it just, to me, that whole point of view just kinda irks me. And this has kinda sparked a bit of a drama, I should say....."

I still don't feel like I misquoted. And I also don't see how you could think I thought you were talking about me personally, unless you mixed up mine and Nessephanie's post. Personally, I watched all the videos, I thought this much was obvious from the fact that I left comments about all of them. And I did so before the "H-video" drama, which I didn't really participate in. I watch every video, multiple times, and feel it is important to do so but I can accept when others feel differently about it.

I realize that you were conveying your side of the argument, I don't have any problem with that aspect. My problem was that you were doing it in a very biased way, all the while talking about what an unbiased judge you were. For one, Nessephanie never said that no one would watch the videos. She said:
Nessephanie wrote:People entering with content like that have to be prepared for people potentially not watching them.

If she had said "No one will watch those videos, they're hentai." then yeah, I could kinda justify calling that childish. But she didn't. And then you take that, run with it, and make it sound like she was just skipping every video that sucked rather than skipping a few based on content. (She did come back and clarify her position, but I think this was after you'd recorded. I still don't totally agree, but she's not planning to vote in the hentai category, so I'm alright with it.)

Perhaps I should just take these more as "This Week in Ngsilver's AMV-world" or some such but I interpreted them as meant to be representative of what's going on at the org, and it's hard to do that one-sided. Not your fault, you've already addressed that and it looks like you're trying to get more people on with you, which is good, but the past shows have already been recorded and released.

I'll just start representing the opposite side of whatever he's talking about, to add fairness.

Plus it'll be fun for me.

Nah, you gotta get Todd. He plays Devil's Advocate no matter WHAT you're talking about. But then again, he doesn't let up, either, so you'd end up with very very long podcasts.....

You know, I think I should refrain from using the quoting system in the future because every time I do it and then go off to make a general statement that doesn't pertain to the person I quoted it always seems like I'm talking to just them. Again, even after seriously thinking about what I said and reading it over I still missed the boat again. Maybe I should stop trying to sound like I generally am a nice person like I am in real life and just let everyone on here think I'm a perverted asshole, it's a lot easier that way....

Anyway, I would have loved to have Todd on the podcast but he was out in Chi-town and not on or available. It's usually my job in most discussions to play devil's advocate but I kind of missed that side of myself during the recording, or in my representation of the black and white part of my argument I went too far. I really didn't want this to get so out of hand on the forums and also outside. There was a lot of discussion that happened in the thread after I recorded and misunderstandings were cleared up and we went on to discuss the topic fairly. More and more I feel I really shouldn't have gone on like I did in the podcast, but what has been released has been released. I don't regret my position on judging and fairness, but I do regret how I aired that opinion.

Careful, or they'll pull out the "if you take anything seriously it's obviously not fun" meme on you. ;)

(which, I suppose, is a welcome change from just labeling the discussion "drama" to discredit it like we usually do here. They're both getting a bit over-played though. I'm sure we can get some newer tactics on this board. I mean, hell, there are lots of fallacies to form arguments around. We should all do some homework over at those political blogs and try something new and exciting.)

If that was my mentality, why would I even care what the podcast said?

Packing for AWA and stuff made getting a final version of Ep 19 up online a no go. Ya'll can still get it via talkshoe if ya so desire.

I finally was able to get the software and drivers for my digital voice recorder that I've been using for live on the spot interviews, so the ACEN episode that ya'll have been waiting for is now sitting in raw files on my desktop at home.

As for AWA, I'm here recording as much as I can when I can. I'll be editing up an AWA special after the con with all the clips and interviews I'll have gotten during the con. Since there is some internet access here I may even have an AMV Contest award ceremony cast with the winners and any interviews those who are in attendance want to give after the fact.

There should be some updates coming up soon here in about a week or so (next weekend most likely) with Ep 19 and both AWA and ACEN special casts. When exactly they will be out I can't really say, I do still need to finish playing Halo:REACH...
