If a group has properly filtered (and many times they don't), then there is no technical benefit to having the source on a disc that you paid for. But due to the changes in technology, the conversation hasn't really been about technical benefits for years. It's really just been about "doing the right thing."
However, "the right thing" here, on the org, has included renting and borrowing for quite some time - neither of which is the "right thing" (or any different from downloading) from the POV of big content.
I don't. As you implied, you need to suggest I rent because I don't already do so. Also notice how "doing the right thing" is in quotes. Morality and ethics are certainly up for debate. There has been a general consensus on the Org from its inception on what the community values are. I dislike conversations about downloaded footage, no matter how pretty, because I find these values non-negotiable for people in this community. You don't like the rules Phade spelled out after discussion with editors of the time? Find another community that better reflects your values.

I never said the quality of the DVDs in the USA are better than raws, I just said you have more control over how it's filtered
Besides the OP claims to have Blurays (or be receiving them soon) so those SHOULD be better than DVDs..
