As if having US remastered DVDs could guarantee that ;___;

Well when talking about the "raws" you find floating around that are already filtered... perhaps you would rather filter them differently... or the "raws" that are essentially people recording their TV broadcasts (gotta love those timestamps and logos!) - having the DVD/Bluray and using them does give you more control about the end result of your video.

If you actually did a lot of editing to various sources, I'd suggesting renting stuff since you're over there.

ugh you are biased so there is no point in arguing with you :/
It's the internet, what can I say...
besides not all American releases are horrid quality - and they do still give you more control over the footage than relying on someone else's filtering (and hoping THEY did it to your liking).

Actually, if we really wanted to cover our ethical bases, we would ask the original creators if they minded if we did it. Not the publishers or licensers. I mean the creators.

And few of us are likely to do that. Even fewer are likely to get permission even if we did.

that's weird. I'd love it if i made an anime and people were using it like this.

but if a wmm narutard asked me and showed me a previous work, i'd be a little hesitant.

I actually use the US DVDs too, since I don't have Japanese pay and can't afford to import from there, but from my experience, many RAW providers know better what they're doing than the DVD remaster people...

if you're ONLY going to be editing with it, and unless you're an INSANE qualityfag or you want to use an ancient/obscure anime, i can't find any real benefits of buying the anime except a warm fuzzy feeling that you get from upholding the law and supporting anime companies. Well i guess the fact that you can delete it all off your computer and still have the original copy, but other than that are there any that aren't obvious until you buy it?

It isn't so much about upholding the law (which differs from country to country), but rather upholding a system of morals. If a group has properly filtered (and many times they don't), then there is no technical benefit to having the source on a disc that you paid for. But due to the changes in technology, the conversation hasn't really been about technical benefits for years. It's really just been about "doing the right thing."

However, "the right thing" here, on the org, has included renting and borrowing for quite some time - neither of which is the "right thing" (or any different from downloading) from the POV of big content.

Honestly I think since you are purchasing the content anyway downloading it isn't a big deal. It may not be defined as "legal" or "ethic" as terms of big greedy ass companies but on a common sense level. Once your order on those blue-ray comes in you own a house-use copy of that content anyway so what's wrong with obtaining an identical copy of it in a different mean? You've already supported the company and you're not costing them any in sales because you've already made that purchase.

I don't. As you implied, you need to suggest I rent because I don't already do so. Also notice how "doing the right thing" is in quotes. Morality and ethics are certainly up for debate. There has been a general consensus on the Org from its inception on what the community values are. I dislike conversations about downloaded footage, no matter how pretty, because I find these values non-negotiable for people in this community. You don't like the rules Phade spelled out after discussion with editors of the time? Find another community that better reflects your values.

Cue up a bunch of bitching about how I am not being inclusive or being elitist just because I like to uphold the foundations of the Org. :awesome:
