I guess the video that never happened for me was the full version of Haruhi3. It's still something that might see the light of day sooner than later.

never actually happened. I know you might be thinking I'm crazy considering the video is available for download and has won awards at cons, but just hear me out. You see, I was working on this video and I finally put all the clips down on timeline and decided to render out a beta and show it to my friends during one of my huge parties I used to throw when I had a big house people could get drunk in. I put the rendered version up online and showed the video to some friends. However before I could get back to work on it and finish it and remove crappy scenes and stuff from it that I thought didn't work (like really low quality gifs) my hard drive crashed. Yay for the click of death. I lost the project files, the source (which I had spent years browsing 4chan to acquire) along with a bunch of other stuff. There was no way to recover from this since I couldn't use the drive since the click means mechanical problem, asking 4chan for specific gifs is out of the question, and I was just too disgusted to deal with it.

So as it is available is nothing but a beta. I figured I might as well release what I had. Sure it wasn't perfect but I got good reviews from it and I figured most people wouldn't really care. Though that is why for the longest time I didn't upload a copy to the local servers.

I have a video I submitted for Otakon last year that I've basically scrapped, but it's possible I might pick it up again some time in the future. Would require a complete redo, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Wars -- by Hurt. Set to Gundam00.

Basically was under a deadline for the con and ended up working on just an introspective for Setsuna. But ended up running out of good scenes and putting some scenes in the middle using another pilot that kinda broke the feel. Also even though the song is slow, and I like working in a fusion of drama and action elements, it was TOO slow in a number of parts. Think if I redid it again in the future I would try to cover story threads for all of the 4 main characters so it was easier to fill in the timeline with smaller cuts. And not have a short deadline to finish the video :)

Others speaking of having a lot of ideas that you never work on:
I think that's rather normal. When you start making AMVs or thinking about making AMVs, it's kinda natural to hear a song on the radio or see a show or something that suddenly gives you an idea. Then you begin working over in your head a concept for it, etc. Kinda a fun way to pass the time driving as long as you aren't a menace on the road ;)

I was planning to do a 8 endless eight videos, I got through 1 and a half and my computer died and I lost the second videos project file, then I thought about extending it to about 12ish minutes, basically the same song, with different visuals. I gave up on the idea after the problems with the second video file, and the fact that I couldn't watch Endless Eight anymore, it just hurt. Maybe once the English DVD's come up and I can rip footage from that, or better yet, the Blu-Rays, but until then, not going to happen.

Shimmy - System of a Down to DBZ Movie 7. It was to be the fastest/coolest dragonball z video ever made. Too bad my computer ate it and it never saw life.

I am Hollywood - He is Legend to New Fist of the North Star. One of the brutalist AMVs to ever reach the internet. I got through about 1 minute and it never was touched again.

I Get It - Chevelle to Akira. This was to be my greatest video but I lost time sadly. I got through about 2 minutes.

Pokemon to Bawitdaba by Kid Rock

I had captured tons of footage (way back before the days of DVD drives >_>) and the hard drive on my computer got full as a result. Some of the video synced really well, which was a huge deal for me back then, so I'm actually pretty saddened I didn't export a prototype video to keep around for later years. I'm thinking of making it again and, y'know, finishing it this time :p

Another was the old Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals OVA set to either Sikamikanico or Around The World, both by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Snrk.

This Thread = My editing life

I have several, but the main one I laugh at is when Beowolf came out with his 2+2=5 video. I cried myself to sleep because the Eva video I was working on just looked like utter crap after having watched that. nothin' but love for Beo tho ;D

my favorite lost project, there were many, was an AMV that had Devo - It's a Beautiful World, to all the great freaky scenes of End Of Evangelion. I think even godix liked it. However, all my source material is gone.

I... well I have tons. But all they do is turn into videos I never SHOULD HAVE made :x

I noticed a couple of youtube trends, one involves a closeup on an upside-down mouth that hillariously (and rather grotesquely) looks like a living breathing sock puppet xD the other is dubbed Kinetik Typography, it's basically a video made strictly from words. The first one (Big Face) I DID pretty much before anybody else did too, and the second one I SHOULD HAVE did, but I had the idea ever since my first internet IC... screw the content just make it out of letters and basic effects!!

Aside from the oft-used reply of "lots", a few of mine have a little history:

Portrait of the Addict: My first full-blown attempt at making an AMV resulted in, among other things, a near-nervous breakdown as I tried to figure out the technical aspects of AMVing, the purchase of the entire Saiyuki series, multiple hard drive failures and well over one hundred hours struggling with approximately 15 seconds of footage. Today, Portrait of the Addict remains an attractive AMV concept (I still have all the clips I ripped because I learned to back everything up on disc, lest one's hard drive die), one that I'm inevitably asked about when the conversation turns to AMV amongst my friends, but it's just got sooo much baggage... Plus, in the six - seven? years since I conceived it, other people have gone on to exploit a similar concept with huge success, so I feel I'd be viewed as extremely late to the supper table if I pursued it.

In the Key of V: Not sure if this makes me seem very creative and smart or just incapable of doing my homework, but I got the idea to create an AMV entirely out of still images (from animated footage, no less) before I knew what a MAD was. Talk about taking the wind out of MY sails. This idea was partially born out of the above trainwreck, when it looked like my computer couldn't handle video editing unless I worked with still images.

XII: I've attempted this AMV twice and am hunkering down for a third go-round. This means obtaining Netflix footage for the third time, ripping the entire series for the third time and creating custom (and time-consuming) artwork for the third time, since I destroyed all materials from previous attempts in fits of rage/as a warning to myself never to attempt this video again. This time it's do or die, though. If I don't give it everything I've got, I think I'm going to regret it...and I hate that feeling.

Untitled: Ripped and clipped the first season of MOHS four times for this, the second season once, got key scenes on the timeline and liked them...then abandoned it over and over when I got distracted with other projects or didn't like the direction it was heading, deleted all materials, etc. Clearly I love wasting my time. I think I just love prepping footage from this series, it's got so many great scenes that can be used for all sorts of nefarious purposes.

The trend here is that I get so in love with ideas that I'm willing to pursue them fanatically...only to abandon it all when the unpleasant truth that AMV creation involves a lot of compromise rears its ugly head. I'm a creative control freak.

I have a ton, most of which I can't remember anymore.

Two memorable ones were, "untitled" using War of the World's up against Everything Ends by Norihiko Hibino. I started the first two minutes of it, decided I didn't like it and then trashed it. The second one was "Human Nature" using FFX and X2, I was just starting to use Adobe at the time. Sent it to a few people and decided to trash it, it was incomplete, and lost it in a reformat and was never found again. All the rest were victims of the same fate, didn't like it, didn't finish. Only one video made it after hanging by a thread for almost two years, it's my newest one, Redemption using DMC4 and Orchard of Mines by Globus.

A video I always wanted to make a video about candy, since I love candy more than anything, cept for video editing. But I just don't see how I could throw something like that together...
