I dunno about getting too comfortable about this schedule yet. Remember to consider the "Errata" sheet that comes with every program book. I'm counting on there being an entry declaring AMV Overflow is canceled. If I've learned anything about schedules being posted ahead of time it's never take them at face value.

Be cautiously optimistic but don't expect much.

I think that's a fair consideration for the Overflow to give priority to people actually attending the con, which Vic would already have that information from our entry forms.

Shoot, only have hotel rooms for Saturday/Sunday. Now I'm seriously considering driving up there for a few hours, to pick up my badge and watch my vid at the overflow.

Then again, I'll probably just be happy with it being shown, or hell, even if my vid is cut for time and/or I can't make it to see my vid shown there, just the overflow existing, and only the best of the best being shown.

I've gone to nearly every Otakon since 2004, with the exception of 09 because of family reasons. But I swear if the oveflow is cut for any reason after the schedule is posted, it will take some serious convincing to get me to return another year. I'd much rather spend my money on AUSA/AMA/a thousand other small cons that don't treat their AMV events as expendable. It has always been a main pull for me.

I think that's a fair consideration for the Overflow to give priority to people actually attending the con, which Vic would already have that information from our entry forms.
As I understand it, people who show up to overflow get their vid bumped to the top of the playlist, right? What would the difference be between people not attending the con and not attending the specific event in this situation.

Alternatively, you could have two playlists. I assume Vic still has the scores each video received and their respective runtimes. After you've trimmed DQ's and such, if you calculate how long showing all the overflow vids in a row is, then you make a "minimum score requirement" to be put on the first playlist, you can raise the score until you've trimmed the playlist running time to match the event running time as close as possible. Then you put everything else on a second, alternative playlist, and only play those if there is extra time or if one of the creators is there.

Augh, Iron Editor at the same time as AMVS4? Now I'm seriously torn, especially since I made the finals... :/

Gah, that day is going to be painful, to be honest. Because I have a gig during the day, I'm going to miss a good amount of stuff... including the US Hetalia Premiere. :( I MIGHT be able to make the autograph sessions... oh well, at least it's not a series I'm completely head over heels in love with, I just really enjoy it.

Sigh. Let's hope they don't change their minds about overflow!!

I think I'll be going to the AMVS 4 premiere during the fan parodies...since I didn't make the finals and that'll be at least SOMETHING that I did work on showing at Otakon. Still sucks though...I love Iron Editor. ;_;

In the spirit of this year's Otakon decision making, I think the overflow screening should be replaced with a half hour for seating followed by the world premiere screening of the aforementioned hour and a half vuvuzela/dramatic falling down/kanye west AMV.

So, here's the deal with overflow. As I brought up at the last meeting when we were "negotiating", I have FOUR hours of videos from people who will be in attendance, and that's after you chop out the DQs (which don't get shown anyways) and the contest finalists. I will build the overflow playlist to have only the videos made by people who said they would be there (if you are there but didn't say you were going to be, don't worry!) If you show up to overflow and let me know, you will get your video moved to the top of the list. Given how many people said they would be there, that still doesn't guarantee your entry will be shown :P There are no "overly long" videos in overflow. Only one person took advantage of the "we'll take long-ass videos!" rule, and said video made the final cut. I'm not queueing up the playlist based on score because then you'll get hit with an hour-long block of Kanon/Clannad/Air romance videos that all look exactly the same after a while and got relatively similar scores ;) Having overflow this early is also a great time for you folks to pick up your seating badges since you'll know where I am! (hint: not at the bar!)

I had nothing to do with the scheduling of AMV Salad, nor any input in the matter. Hell, until I aw Deuce's sig, I didn't even know it was playing at Otakon.

We SHOULD be able to decide on the winners by Iron Editor. We MAY have to hold off on announcing Best of Show until after the con since that's another 1,000-2,000 extra votes to count (That's just Saturday. Friday's votes will be counted on Friday). yes, we actually get that many ballots back since we hand them out at the screening rather than bag them. Plus, this year everyone gets a pencil to vote with AND NOT TO POKE YOUR FRIENDS WITH I SWEAR TO GOD THERE BETTER BE NO REPORTS OF AMV CONTEST PENCIL RELATED INJURY! *deep breath*

Iron Editor always runs 3 hours, even when we start on time (lawl).

The "errata sheet" actually IS the schedule, so unless someone sets fire to Video 1, events should go forth as scheduled.

The AMV Contest description is misleading. It's a 2.5 hour block, but the last 30 minutes is to give people a chance to leave. Including the intro, the contest is only 2:02:30.

I love you VicBond007 and want to have your children. Even though I am a man, this does not stop this from being a capability this day and age, and I will find a way to make it happen. The problem is that it will probably be an evil clone, and also a male Confessor knowing my luck, so my love for you will risk the demise of the world. But know that I love you.

I probably will, barring some unforeseen laptop-related catastrophe, as I think Cyanna and I are planning to release and announce our videos on Friday night, so we'll be online anyway.

... though I don't think the Marriott has free wireless internet access.

You'll get your chance at NekoCon (if you're there) and AUSA at my panel. It would be scheduled after 10pm per the PG-13 rating so I'd be honored by your presence. :jester:

I'm not attending this year :/ but this stuff's just crazy. I'd really like to know how they're losing space? Did the hilton kick us out? like wtf. Remeber otakon 2007 when everything was awesome and everyone got along and there was a sickkkk main events room with FIVE FREAKIN SCREENS FOR AMV VIEWING PLEASURE??? Yeah.... so do I. [/nostalgia]

I say it's time to focus on what really matters; the videos. Who's with me? See I Love Editing, OK? Editing is having a ridiculously huge rig setup in a tiny one room apartment. Staying up till three AM to earn a trophy and plush toy that isn't worth it... but IS. And it's girls who know that a way to a man's heart is through an epic action sync. I. Love. Editing. And I know you love it too. That's why you're here. Why millions of people are pretending to work while the read this at their desk! It's why we made the AMV contest; so every person on this great spinning marble will be able to get a taste of AMV sugar. Families, kids, grandparents, and you hardcore guys? I'm talking about you. Don't hate on them. No, don't do it. Look at it this way, if you've got an awesome girlfriend, and them someone else gets an awesome girlfriend, you know who wins? EVERYONE. [..] And the AMV contest? The AMV contest brings a whole lot more editing to the table. Because every editor is a true editor. Amateur editors, pro editors, everyone. And though we may pledge fanboy allegiances to different flags, deep down inside we all serve one master, on king. And his name is Editing, forever may he reign! :bzz: :bzz: :bzz: :bzz2: :bzz2: :bzz2:
