Glowing Giant Rei Boobs of Wrath, Death and Destruction have pretty much been decided by cons to be universally acceptable for the general public. Proof positive that the bigger, the better.

At least with these prizes, I can safely assume that anybody in the contest is totally capable of watching TV, or giving something a hug, and they won't go unused.

Does that mean there aren't plaques this year?

I think when he said "prizes", he meant of the swag variety, separate from the actual awards (the trophies/plaques/whatever).

There are usually around 5 or 6 finalists in each category.

Categories being: Action, Drama/Serious, Romance/Sentimental, Comedy, Trailer/Parody, and Upbeat

The general upshot is that the whole of AMV Contest Screening is usually blocked off to last around the 2.5 hour mark.
