Fantastic. Be great to have an Editor where "we" can actually get things done
right the first time, like Virtual Dub when it was first released, and Grow With It
as it advances.

I just wanna say this. Don't get your hopes up too much for this.
I doubt anyone here will be choosing this software.
I think the overall goal/purpose of this software is perhaps much different than what an AMV editor would expect.
It's still in development so maybe some things will change and it will become much better.
But right now, I think I could cut together an amv more easily in avisynth.

That's rather disappointing to hear. I'll still give it a shot when it comes out, but I'm far less hopeful than I was.

Re: Lightworks NLE being open-sourced
well, I hate to sound "old school" but, most people only grasp the two line
video with accompanying audio tracks editors -- right from the start anyways.
.. fading from "A" to "B" while keeping the audio in one piece to match the timing -- kinda thing --
then fading from "B" to "A" for the next one. Transitions actually confuse the newbe.
. If anyone still makes a twin-line editor, as I've just described, let me know because THAT's
all I'm looking for. And a two-lined Virtual Dub would put me into heaven.

Re: Lightworks NLE being open-sourced
I'm honestly really disappointed by this program. UTVideo crashed it outright, and the UI and editing controls are among the worst I've ever encountered. And after some conversation in the IRC channel, apparently even the UI's behavior is inconsistent between users (some of us couldn't even see the "close program" button and had to force-kill the process).
There's potential here, but it's saddled with such a crappy interface, it's near-impossible to use. Maybe a few versions down the road, after they release the source and get engineers working on it rather than eye-candy specialists, it might be worth recommending. For now, steer clear.
