Anime movies

Postby Wyverex » Mon Dec 09, 2002 4:00 pm

Anime movies (Jin-Roh, GitS, Akira, ...) have always been my fav and I'm looking for a few others (quite well-known please. Living in Belgium, I really can't find anime DVD very easily).
Sorry for the newbie question but it would be kind of you all to post a bunch of names and a one word description (action, drama, ...), thanks ^_^.

I'm asking this for my next AMV. I use anime movies only (way easier to work with one big file than a bunch of episodes) and I'd like to have a little list to choose in...

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Comedy, Action, etc.)

I'm not really sure because I've never seen this, but it must be like the series...

You can watch that movie without touching the series. Actually it was the movie that got me interested in the series.
Try Vampire Hunter D and D Bloodlust.
Perfect Blue....(psychological thriller) as far as I know the only one of its kind
Ninja Scroll, ageless classic.
and AKIRA because love it or hate it, you suck if you don't watch it.

"Memories". I got to watch the first 1/3 of it, and it seems pretty good. And definitely "Knocking On Heaven's Door".
I'm out...

"Grave of the Fireflies"
- nice and depressing
"Macross Plus Movie"
- I have only seen the ovas but I heard that the ending for the Movie is a little more well developed
"Spriggan"
- good action/adventure movie, reminds me of Akira
"Escaflowne"
- nice mech design, and I liked the bitter-sweet ending
"Death&Rebirth/End of Eva"
- love it or hate it, its Eva
"Metropolis"
- I severely disliked this one, but alot of people liked it
"Utena: The movie"
- I plan on watching this one after I finish the series (hmmm, i'm suddenly hungry for curry rice...)
"Wings of Honneamise"
- Another one on my too watch list, produced by the boys as Gainax, Critics seem to like it
Anything by Miyazaki
- always good time with these films

and this is just a small list, hopefully most of these films are well known enough that you can find them in Belgium,(hell, alot of these movies were at my local block buster ^_^)

you might want to check out http://www.animeondvd.com for a list of dvds available in your region. However, since you are in the same region as Japan, I don't know how helpful this will be.

Nomination seconded very heavily for Wings of Honneamise. It's amazing to drink in all the details; how entire cultures were redrawn from scratch to make 'em different that what we're used to. Very little things, like the rod-shaped coins, triangular frying pans, and a beautiful single-shot pistol. Oh, and the aircraft! So different than we normally see, and at the same time eminently flyable.

Venus Wars (adventure), if you can find it subtitled, the dub of it sucks royally.

Escaflowne (adventure) the movie, I'ts basically a codensing of the series.

Kite and Mezzo Forte (Action) both done by the same animator good psychological action flicks.

Both of the Armitage movies (Action).

Dominion Tank Police (Action Comedys) good movies based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, the creator of GitS.

If you're into the end of the world type animes than X is the one for you. It was one hell of an action filled dramatic anime.

I warn you to stay away from Metropolis. That movie is pure ass. The animation sucks, the characters mostly suck, the (almost non existant) plot sucked, the music sucked. There is nothing good about that movie.

Nah, Metrtopolis rocks. The animation was awesome, this guy's clearly on some form of crack.
All I can suggest is Miyazaki. Anything done by Miyazaki is a winner!

One of the Coolest

Postby Hermianna » Tue Dec 10, 2002 2:53 pm

One of the coolest anime movies for me is "Ninja Scroll". Kinda old school, yeah, but I really thought it was awesome.
I'd like to think I'm quirky, but I think I just come off as weird most of the time.
