Am I allowed to cheat and use .m2v files, or is it recommended that I use .vobs? I'd rather not have the audio when I rip my DVDs, but just in case I was wondering about this.

DGIndex supports MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 in pretty much any of their common forms - .m1v, .m2v, .mpg, or .ts, so yes, you can just forgo ripping the audio and give it an .m2v file. As long as the ripping process itself completed successfully, you'll be fine.
