My music is based around ambience and canon. Music that can be repeated in the background of another sound and builds up through repititious play. Thank you for the tip, helps me with the basics because I have always played the piano like I play the drums because I have actually learnt how to play drums.Shui wrote:I didn't learn too much myself, theory is just something for professionals in my eyes. All you need to know is basic chords theory : Minor /Major and the scales you wanna use. The scale tells you which other keys sound good with your basic note in a specific genere.
I only know the standart 12-note scale and the jazz-scale. Up to know I've only used the jazz scale in my songs (or whatever sounded good to me). Most of the music I like is on jazz anyway (like Pendulum or Funky Breaks in general).
All you gotta do is spend a lot of time and try out different things on the piano.
Anybody here who composes their own music?

I love that kind of thing and will do a canon myself one time. This reminds me of a podcast I've listend to about Pachellbells Canon in D. Definitely a good listen - check it out hereÊricō wrote:

Re: Anybody here who composes their own music?
I kind of compose my own music. I compose basically any form of music I can think of when the idea is in my head. Although, I generally prefer to compose thrash metal because it is my favorite genre. I don't exactly have a band so I write the lyrics and instrumentals for the songs. My lyrics aren't the best, but I don't really care. I don't have much for recording equipment and I only have 2 keyboards, 2 electric guitars, an acoustic guitar, bass guitar, piano, and planning on soon buying a banjo .
