A tragic love story plot always seems to work better!

Yeah, but I think we all agree that poor Spike has had enough bad lovin for one anime character.

Plot doesn't mean you show the plot of the show. It means teh video itself has a progression and not just random scenes to random lyrics. this can easily happen if you take every line literally and just base each scene lyric for lyric and not consider the video as a whole. I've seen a few videos taht feel like they are just random slide show x for a show but others show plot. Tony's One Day More has a progression to it while eseentially it only focuses on one moment of the entire show.

plot what?

plot is merely just the angle which u want to portray through ure vid..
it doesn't have to be the story in chronological order...the plot can be about the character(s),the situation,emotions,...whatever...plot doesn't=order of events

Actually, plot is not a requirement in an AMV. It all depends on what you are doing. If you want to portray an anime in a total artistic fashion, then do don't need a plot.... I think it's important not to confuse plot with a storyboard. A storyboard is how the video will flow is a requirement for all AMVs (even if it's only in your head rather than on paper - i.e. plan on how the video will flow). Plot usually means a succession of scenes that are used to tell a story

Wow, throw in some downsizing, poorly paid employees and forcing your parents to live in a trailer park and you become a regular Hollywood exec.

I wouldn't say a plot is 100% necessary for an AMV. It honestly depends on what kind of concept you come up with. I used a plot for my Careless Cobra vid and decided against one for Random Acts of Violence. For me at least, it all depends on what the music inspires me to think about at the time. I have a semi-plot filled one in mind for my next project, as well as one that fits neither category.
