Hnestly, i didnt like it much, i felt the pushes coulda been a little faster to match with the pace of the song. Some scenes looked like the lasted to long, i actually quit watching it after about the 4:30 line ;[ sorry

If this is what you mainly noticed, then I at least partially hit my objective for this video. Thanks for giving this one a chance.

I'm still waiting for someone to figure out the trick used to make this video; the poster graphic should tip it, but this clue also should have been included in the initial post, but wasn't because I didn't have a good formulation for it yet:

f(g(x) + 3) = f(y)
Solve for g(x).

The local upload is now live; thanks to the admins for approving the large upload, probably safe in the knowledge that it will not make a huge impact in terms of downloads.

Also, the video's been out for a week, so I can pull back the curtain alluded to in prior posts. The production trick in this video is simple. Only 3 cuts (the last one, the next to last, and 0918 where it follows 0917 in the project file trace (yes, that's what that thing is under the "Solve Me" banner) up at the top) were placed intentionally. Everything else is the result of a random roll] against a table containing all 1375 non-credit animation cuts in Summer Wars. All I had control of was how the video was presented (effects, any layering), when to go to the next cut, and what transition if any to use to do so. I also made some deletions if a cut came up again too close to the last one, or just "again" in the case of cut 0557, which the dice-roller I was using seemed to have a special boner for.

The Machine That Made The Video.
It haz a boner for the number 557.

To repeat: this video was created almost entirely by random selection of video. If you watched this and the thought "random" did not come up, either I did a good job cutting and layering to suggest intention, or the AMVs you watch generally are cut at a level of editor intent that is debatably indistinguishable from line noise.

Some people may dispute this; "u just made a crap video & r jsut sayin its random". Obviously, I wasn't filming myself clicking the roller, so I can't prove this so absolutely as to convince the committed, but the video is its own best evidence. Look at the sequence from 4:15 to 4:19 (now that it's on local, you can probably skip there in the preview); the "countdown" cut that opens this sequence is synched almost perfectly in one of the real examples of serendipity in the video, but the two that follow it (because I ran out of frames/didn't want to drop the timer below 02:10:00) are impossibly weak, and one isn't even a reaction shot. No editor, no matter how bad, intentionally cuts their video that way, especially given how well the setup fits. Even if you insist that the first cut is placed intentionally, the only explanation for the two that follow is that they were placed by an "editor" that could not see the footage.

If I did not fix this sequence, which is glaringly weak and impossibly exposed, there is no reason to suspect that any other point in this video, besides those identified already, was videographed or plotted intentionally. This then leads to why I'd put 30+ hours into a project I didn't have real creative control over, but that is better if more pretentiously explored here.

Hopefully this doesn't spoil the video for anyone, but it's been a whole week, and nearly all of the people who cared probably saw it day of release. Some of them also probably figured this out in advance, but considered it too obvious to bother commenting on.

Very interesting concept - it seems that the postmodern of AMVs is fully here.

I would have loved to see this used to some less noisy audio, though - is the program obtainable somewhere? ;x

5/5 purely for the concept.

The program's available from http://www.neophyre.com/msc/rdr3.html for anyone who wants to experiment with it. There are some severe incompatibilities with later Windows versions; I ended up having to run it in a WinXP VM in order to get the right deprecated libraries loaded.

To be fair, this was the first video in the database using Summer Wars as a main source; some unfamiliarity with the movie is to be expected on behalf of the audience here. Also, I got to avoid the challenge that will be faced by later editors, of either integrating the OZ and offline material or just completely cutting around half the movie, by virtue of the production process; it's just there, for viewers to interpret as they may.
