some effects i want to know

Post by carlyxjack » Fri May 28, 2010 3:31 pm

in this video you can see a line coming up from 0:09-0:11
it may sounds stupid, but how to make it? and in 0:32 you can see a dot transition.
Can i do that in sony vegas and if yes how?

I am sure to ask more questions in the future^^

in vegas,
the red line could be made by masking a line out of a solid red frame, and then using pan/crop to move it across the screen. and the dot transition, could probably be done with cookie cutter and pan/crop some how, but i'm too lazy to experiment.

For the line, mask a line out of a solid color generated media.

Then use a transition like linear wipe or push to animate it coming across the screen.

They seem to be using a software other than Sony Vegas, probably After Effect, so I'm sure there are just different ways of doing the dots. I played around with cookie cutter, pan/crop and transitions a bit but I could not figure out how to do them in Vegas.

The shatter is also a feature in After Effects. You can create a shatter in vegas but you have to do everything manually so it's not gonna be as smooth...

Okay, I put some sort of shatter together. I must be pretty bored
Anyway, this is what I was able to do.

First, you have to mask your own shattered pieces (I didn't do the whole screen cuz I'm impatient).
Image

Then animate the shattering by keyframing the movement. Move every piece to where you want it to end up when it shatters.
ImageImage

Then change the compositing mode (blending mode) to "3D Source Alpha"
Image

Then keyframe the perspective view (camera position) by using 'track motion'. This way you can give your shatter a 3D look.
Image

So that's what I came up with. Hope the screen shots make it understandable.

....
Just realized something cool.
Before doing the 'track motion', duplicate the track and then put the 3D track motion to one and leave the other track how it is. It makes a more dynamic look.

Wheww. Okay, I'm done. Hope that helps XD
