Now posting off my parent's computer, my Dell Latitude D600 laptop screen tends to shut off randomly, but all the other stuff such as the software and programs are running smoothly. Heck, even booting up Windows goes smoothly so I assume this is more of a hardware issue.
Any ideas how I can tackle this?
So my laptop screen died.....

Re: So my laptop screen died.....
grab a cd or flash drive and make a linux live cd/usb to see if it happens there too mebbe?
This actually sounds similar to a problem I was having with my laptop a few years ago (except my entire laptop was shutting down randomly). For me, it was a bad wireless driver.
Any more details on what you're doing when it shuts off (or is it just idle)?
can you make it come back without restarting?

Re: So my laptop screen died.....
Well, I booted up my computer again, and everything is running smoothly with the screen working and such. I do my usual activities like going online or play some video, but after a couple of minutes the screen just shuts off. Even when I move my mouse the screen doesn't come back on.
So I rebooted the computer again, but as it was booting the screen shuts off much earlier than before. Even when I tried to get to Safe Mode, the screen still shuts off.

Re: So my laptop screen died.....
yeah, that's a hardware issue then.
If you wanna open up your laptop you could look for a loose connection to the monitor. Beyond that I don't think there's much that can be done. It sounds like it's your screen to me (as a video card issue should prevent you from booting in the first place). You could try replacing the monitor...but at that point it's probably time to look at a new laptop.
...actually if you have a vga display (or a vga-dvi adapter for a dvi display) you might try hooking it up to your dell, and see if you have the same issue.
