AvsP not opening?

Postby Jessie-kun » Sat May 15, 2010 4:12 pm

AvsP has decided it doesn't want to open. All that happens is a white box with a lot of text flashes up for half of a second, and then it's gone.
I haven't got a clue what to do, as I'm not very savvy with a couple of the AMVApp progrems yet. D:
Has anyone encountered this problem? And more importantly, does anyone know how to fix it?

Try AvsPmod and see if it works.

Use a text editor instead of a hacky-crappy app or hacky-crappy app mod. Notepad++ is good, or EditPlus, or vim, or GNU Nano, or whichever other text editor you fancy. Stock Notepad is fine too.

Do you ever not have an issue with something? could you explain your beef with AvsP?

AvsP, despite bugging out every now and again, is a useful tool for editors.
Especially if you're trying to tweak a filter like Tcomb(), being able to quickly switch between two different versions of a script (and see the difference it makes) is nice. (I'd like to see vim do that )

When a few people are like "help pl0x, my script doesn't work in *vdub/x264/other program in which it should work here* but it works in Avsp..." and it turns out there was an issue with the script that somehow AvsP was fine with, you get why some some get annoyed by it... :P

That said, if one knows avisynth well enough, AvsP is fine and nice to have a quick preview of how the script looks like.

What mirko said, it's easier to make sure a script works elsewhere, and pressing F2 in virtualdub is hardly difficult.

Ok, now are you ready to back up that statement somehow? I've never heard of a situation where a script can work in AvsP but not in something else. AvsP is simply a script editor with a video preview. The video preview is handled by AVISYNTH itself, not avsp, just like it would be in any other viewer.

See the past 4 years worth of Darkhold logs from people with AvsP issues. I think there are 2 examples only that are not due to AvsP doing things differently.

Well, I'll also be providing example of the opposite: some heavy filterchains randomly crash AvsP (I get an AvsP error pop-up, not it freezing due to the slow script), and removing one filter in the chain will make it work again. Too bad the chain itself is fine and works in vdub. Has happened me quite a few times.

Yea, avsp does have some random crashes sometimes.

and pressing F2 in virtualdub is hardly difficult

reloading the script and being able to flip quickly between two versions of a script are different things.

The point here is that when AvsP does its job, it's helpful.

I agree with him. I used it a few times and I never had any kind of trouble, or crashes. I didn't really make any HEAVY scripts from what I recall, but it still worked just fine. I don't see any reason behind of why should AVSP work differently from Avisynth itself (but NOTE, I didn't make it so I can't tell) since it's just using a GUI between both of them.

Thing is we don't know yet if the user fixed his problem with AvsP. I believe it shouldn't be about the fact that is sucks or not, if he wants to use it, that's it :uhoh:
I suggest re-downloading AvsP and trying again with the new "installation" (it doesn't really install, but maybe somehow there's a file missing). What's the text flashing thing?
