As far as I'm concerned, this is a net positive. I've been hollering for better time slots for the contest showings for years, and a smaller section of the room will be easier to fill. Thanks for the status update!

This is your official notice of 2 weeks until the deadline.

I am buying a house. Hurray! Settlement is on the 14th, and I'll be moving in on the 16th. I'll be doing everything in my ability to get back to people as quickly as possible. When people don't follow the rules and / or have technical issues, it sometimes takes a very long time to resolve these issues. I have no problem with this. I want everyone to have their videos look as good as possible for the pre-screening.

If you think you might even remotely have a technical question or issue, please get it to me this week. Next week, starting Friday May 14th, I will be taking videos AS IS, and FTP will no longer be an option. I will be taking videos up to 11:59 PM of May 18th.

Videos received after the deadline will automatically be disqualified from the AMV Contest, but may still be shown during the General Screening. The deadline for this will be June 11th. Depending on the volume of total AMV submissions, the 2 screenings of the General Screening will most likely have a different play list, with some repeat videos, and some cycled out to allow for more videos to be shown.

AMV Panel Information

If you are interested in having one of your AMVs shown in front of a live audience and then critiqued by our group of panelists, please send me an e-mail with your video information. Please make this a video that is not being sent to AnimeNEXT for the AMV Contest or General Screening. This can also be a partially completed video and / or an older video you have made. If you want to bring an at-door submission to be looked at, please give it to me on a CD or DVD after the first screening of the AMV Contest so that I can make sure it is appropriate. We (staff) are not being provided with internet access at AnimeNEXT, and I cannot download your video at any time during the convention. If there is a lot of interest in this, I need to know ASAP so that we can extend the duration of the panel.

Seriously? Is everyone on Face Book and Twitter now? Next time around, I'll look at creating a Face Book group and Twitter account specifically for these AMV Contests. I don't know what an RSS Feed is, but I'll make it so that you can get those, I think, unless I need to install something from an Apple product that I don't, and never will have. I used to frequent forums all the time for social networking. There's been a mass exodus away from them though, and even after using Face Book for around a year, I still feel that forums are superior in every way...

I got back to everyone this morning by e-mail. If I didn't get back to you, I didn't get anything from you. I'll be checking my e-mail all day.

Hello there!

I had this all planned out, up until the point that my ISP is telling me they won't be out until later this week. If you have sent me an e-mail in the past few days, I should have responded to you by now. If you sent an e-mail very recently, you should have gotten an e-mail that looks something like this, in part or in whole.

"At this point, FTP uploads available from AnimeNEXT are no longer available. You will need to submit your video through a file upload site, such as Megaupload or YouSendIt. You can either attach your video information in your e-mail to me, as an attachment in your e-mail to me, or provide a download link for your video information in your text file. Please make sure that all of your video information is filled out correctly.

I am letting you know that I have received this e-mail. Due to a technical oversight where I did not set up internet where I moved last Friday, I will have to download all AMV submissions at work, burn them to DVD, bring them home, and the Pre-Screening will be delayed slightly."

I will only be able to answer last minute questions until about 2:00 or 3:00 PM EST today.

The pre-screening will be on Friday evening. If I have internet hooked up by then, I will post the results that evening, otherwise, I will post the results on Saturday morning.

AMV Contest Pre-Screening Results:

62 AMV Submissions
49 Editors
Average Video Rating: 2.57 out of 5.0.

I'm a little disappointed and annoyed. I don't understand why people cannot follow directions. Anyone who has asked for help, from me, by submitting early can tell you that I have been more than helpful in trying to clear up any possible video problems. Some issues like video quality cannot be fixed, and that is what it is.

27 Videos were submitted during the last 48 hours of the deadline. 4 Videos had to be disqualified for content. The average consensus from our pre-screeners was that 20 videos had poor video quality, 6 videos had poor audio quality, 14 videos had the wrong aspect ratio, 5 videos had some sort of watermark, and 9 videos had some sort of credits or bumpers. The average consensus was that 20 videos had nothing wrong with them, and only 10 of those videos everyone agreed that there was nothing wrong with-- and one of those 1 has to be disqualified for content.

Several videos we could not make heads or takes of content wise. We were laughing during some Dramatic / Serious videos, and thought some Upbeat / Parody videos were Dramatic / Serious-- meaning there is a direct conflict between what the editor was going for versus the viewer reaction.

All of that said, I am going to need a lot of time figuring out the play list. I'll have it figured out by the end of the day.
