I don't think we should have an AMV per se, but I like the idea of a video or a slideshow promoting how to use the site via flash pop-up or something.
I've seen other websites do it, and as long as there's a skip function or it's optional (like view a how-to video HERE!) then I'm supportive.

I also like the contest to make the video. I think it would get some interesting/awesome results. We could have it around the same time as the VCA? Or maybe right after?
"VCA Winners announced. Get your site help vids ready for the deadline in 2 months" or something.
It would bring a whole new cohesive-ness to the site and community.

Only problem I can see really is who has to sit and watch all these videos... Or a bunch of people being "But I don't WANT to export to FLV format!" xP

Scratch that, I think the how-to video contest should coincide with the .org banner logo contest.
Then we could vote/discuss about the two things together.

Banner contest or logo contest?

Logo contest.
For the banners.

The one that only happens once a year. D:<

Logo contest for the "logo", you mean.

Banners have almost nothing to do with the logo contest.

The banners use the logo. Logo contest for the logo does have a nice recursive ring to it though.

a big sign saying "go to youtube.com and search for how to videos" really isn't necessary, people should learn if they so desire, if not then just go to youtube and be a douche.

The Welcome AMV is for navigating the .org site itself, not a guide on how to make AMVs or anything like that, Kickass.

If there's one thing I learned on the internet it's this:
People that use the internet are not mentally retarded or have alzheimer's. They either lern 2 internet or they GTFO.

Just a thought. :o

Well, but what was being said was that we didn't want people to GTFO, nor have to lurk all over the place to learn how "to internet" to do things that should be simple.

I was generalizing about the internet itself, not the site. Nobody on this planet with internet access has no ability to rationalize what a button with english text on it does if that english text is relevant. This is not amv.on.nimp.org, this is not encyclopedia dramatica, those that lern 2 advanced internet like myself don't appreciate it when people set the bar, which is already on the ground, too low. This is because you have to noclip if you're above the cloud of all reasonable doubt.
