What NOT to do if you're a noob)

Postby SQ » Sun Dec 08, 2002 2:13 pm

Yes, I had an interesting encounter with a noob today. And it annoyed the hell out of me. Now I feel what everyone else feels toward noobs.

This is an IM conversation. I've changed names around. I am "Me" and the noob is "T".

T says:
hey
T says:
do you make music vids?
T says:
hello?
T says:
I am from animemusicvideos forum
Me says:
really? Yeah. I'm SQ
T says:
do u use adobe premiere?
Me says:
Yes
T says:
yay
T says:
how do I view all frames?
T says:
from a clip
T says:
I am newbie

Me says:
-quirks a brow- You're asking me? -laughs a bit- I find this kind of funny. I'll tell you, but I want to know where you got my email from, and why you chose me instead of the other people on a-m-v.org
T says:
why is it funny?
Me says:
No reason. Just that I'm not. . . I don't know. As popular as most people in the org
T says:
I am newbie to forum
T says:
u were online
Me says:
so you only added me because I was online at the time, and you needed help
T says:
forget it then
T says:
srry
Me says:
No, I'm opening up Adobe to tell you, anyway
T says:
k
Me says:
you want every individual frame of a certain clip to show up so you can edit it?
Me says:
What are you trying to do? Put text in the clip or something like that?
T says:
well I am making a music video
T says:
my first one
Me says:
Okay, so why do you want to see the individual frames? I need a little help from you for me to help you.
T says:
so I can delete some
T says:
I don't want a hole clip so I wanna delete the ones I don't want
Me says:
Ohhhhhhhhhh
Me says:
Okay, that's easier to answer.
T says:
oh goody
"Me says:
Okay, you imported all your clips into Premiere, right?
T says:
yes
T says:
and music
T says:
it all works
Me says:
Alright. Double click the clip with the specific scenes in it that you wanted, and a little preview window sort of thing should pop up
T says:
I know
Me says:
Okay. . . You may know, but did you do that?
T says:
yes
Me says:
There's a little red marker at the beginning of the line that shows the clip's length. Drag that to the place you want your clip to start
---------------
And after that, It was pretty much all me helping him, and him saying "yes", "no", or "It doesn't work".

Funny, I never told him to consult the guides, or LOOK at the FIRST message posted here. I'll do that now. . . Anyway, if any other noobs are reading this, DON'T DO WHAT "T" DID!!!! It's very annoying, and it just shows your idiocy!! (Y'know, I should probably post this in that first sticky thread.)

"T" is probably bothering some other unsuspecting person right now, So I'll go save them from him. . . Maybe I can smack some sense into the guy. . .

First off, don't be so hard on T, he did the same thing to me. If that ever happens to you again simply say "NO" and direct them to the guides. When people first get premiere it confuses them. That's normal. Just tell them you can't help them and say "But maybe this will" and link em to the guides. In the future just say "No" to the premiere question in the first place if you aren't willing to help (I actually don't have premiere). Remember, n00bs need people to help them, that's how they un-n00b-ify. Not to attack you or anything, I was a little pissed too. But I don't think you should've written this topic about it. It'll probably just drive T away from even trying to make vids. That's just my 2 cents.

It's just so amazing to me how so many people will pay the huge 600 price tag for premiere and not even know how to edit a darn clip.

Here's a list of what n00b's are REALLY NOT SUPPOSED TO DO:

#1: Post a thread that says "Download my video" without leaving a link or any info.

#2: Beg for hosting.

#3: Beg for opinions.

#4: Post a topic saying "Hi I'm new" in any forum but it's all about me.

#5: Bash ANY AMVs or people for making AMVs.

#6: State that they are better than anyone without immediate proof.

#7: Post a Linkin Ball Z video (unless its really REALLY good).

#8: Rant about ANYTHING (At least until you've got a good 20-30 posts, I hate it when they rant and run).

#9: Post a video in which you have stolen from another video.

#10: Yell at Jbone.

The list is complete. If I forgot anything, feel free to add to it.

I did end up helping him, and I didn't blow up until he drove me to it. I ended up cussing him off later on because he was being an ass. (I'm just having a bad day, it seems. Check out page 4 of "Make a DBZ M.V.")

He ended up wanted to know my age, and then lying about his two times over, mocking me, telling me that all of what I said was crap. And I all I did was help him and say in the politest way I could "Maybe the guides are there to help you" after that I blew up. . . It's all in my journal entry if you want the whole summary of it.

its not really because 99% of them (noobs) download it on kazaa, edonkey or whatever. Its a fact. They download it because they think its what they definitely need to make music videos even if they know nothing about digital video at all. Thats how I was at first but then I realized I needed some in-depth knowledge of video to actually get anywhere worthwhile and so I spend a few months becoming a l33t encoder instead of just an amv creator.
really the best advice to n00bs is that they need to spend time reading up on the subject of interest and learn the skills needed before they can realistically get anywhere.

Hmmm... They should tackle at their own risk. It would allow him to easily molest them.

Hehe.

Look at me, I downloaded it off of Kazaa, and look where *I've* gotten to.
And when I started editing, I had no knowledge of digital video except the basics. (Eg. what DivX was, how to encode a basic file in VDub/Windows Media Encoder, etc.)

I have this problem and it's called a short temper and. . . -truck flies past- GOD DARNIT I'M TRYING TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING!!!
