How to make a grid glow and look like lasers?

I'm using CS3 and when I try to change the blend mode, my composition layer goes solid white. I know I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. I'm trying to take a grid that I had made, and make it glow to look like a laser grid. Right now it's a bit too dull. How do you do this?

Add a slight Gaussian Blur and than add a Glow (you can find it under Stylize).
