Help A Newbie Out :(

Postby KamakuraNeko » Fri Jan 29, 2010 9:56 pm

I need help with some of the things on this site and i can't seem to find any forums that explain what i want to know. So please, if you know how to do any of the things i need help with tell me please.

1. I don't know how to get the preview option for my amvs. I read somewhere that the site dose that automatically but it's been two months since i posted my first amv and i still don't have the option to preview it. Does it really take that long?
2. I don't know how to get the local download option or the direct download option. I think i read something that shows you how to do both but it was for if you have a PC and i have a Mac. That's also why i don't know how to use filezilla.
3. I see that some amvs have a picture in the comments section of the video information, how do i get a picture there?

That's all i need help with at the moment, please help if you can.

You have to have a video on local to get it converted for previewing. There's a thread in the Site Help section about how to upload: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=93665

Did you try it?

Ileia is right, preview option is for those videos hosted on local, and from what I can see, you have none. Try uploading with the topic suggested.

Try this one: http://www.elated.com/articles/filezilla-tutorial/

It has screenshots from a Mac version.

Looks like the only difference in the mac version is that the "settings" dialog puts passive and active mode into their own tabs (that and I can't find a screenshot of where the keep-alives option is.)

everything else looks to be the same (as far as my guide goes.) If poking around until you find those options is something you don't want to do I'd just leave things as they are and try connecting to Kero following the steps in my last screenshot there (and yes, the first step there is typing kero.animemusicvideos.org into the host field)

AFAIK, it's strange that the host isn't enough, but the IP of kero is 69.26.178.19 if you want to try to login with it.

Shouldn't need that. I'm guessing it might be asking for your IP address...in which case click to find out

if that doesn't work, try going to edit->settings->ftp
check to see if there's a "use passive mode" setting
if not, go to edit->Setting->ftp->passive mode and look there too

I tried both the IP addresses but neither of them worked. Also when i go to edit, the only options are Network configuration wizard and clear private data. I think the network configuration wizard is the same as setting but it doesn't say ftp anywhere.

what are you doing to get asked for the IP address?
please list your steps starting with putting kero.animemusicvideos.org into the host field
(don't post your upload username or password)

I started by entering the host, username, and password then pressed quickconnect but it said the connection had timed out and it couldn't connect to the server. So then i went to Edit>Network Configuration Wizard. The it showed the two options either passive or active and i chose passive. It also had a little check box that said allow fallback to other transfer mode on failure and i check that. Next it said i could either use the server's external IP address instead or fall back to active mode and i chose the first one. Next it gave me the options, Ask operating system for the external IP address, use the folling IP address (and it had a box were you were supose to type that in), or get external IP address from following URL: http://ip.filezilla-project.org/ip.php, and it had a check box that said don't use external IP address on local connections and i checked that box. I've tried all three of those options but none of them work. Next it said Ask operating system for port or use the following port range: 6000-7000 and i also tried both but they didn't work.

check "ask operating system for external IP address" and "ask operating system for port"
if asking the OS for the external IP doesn't work, then do the "use the following ip address" option and put in your own IP address

if that doesn't work, I'll have access to a mac tomorrow (or rather, later today...at least for me)

Are you sure you're using the Filezilla client and not the Filezilla server program? Your explanation sounds similar to shit I was going through to get a Filezilla server up and running.
