The only anime I've ever seen my dad watch is a few eps of Ghost In The Shell: SAC on TV. He might like Death Note though since he watched the 1st live-action movie of it once on TV as well despite him having no prior knowledge as to what it was about. Was odd walking into the lounge room to see him watching it. I think he asked me what it was, but he seems to like international movies for some reason anyway so him watching the World Movies channel wasn't a surprise. lol.

As far as Ghost In The Shell is concerned, I might show him Solid State Society eventually since he seemed to like Stand Alone Complex and we have it on DVD. :P

I showed my parents "daydream" when they wanted to know what it was I spent a year making and won an award with. I had to explain the animation, what Azumanga Daioh was and was about, what Yotsuba was and that the two works were by the same author. My dad got all red faced and was apparently embarrased to be watching it. He said he liked it and that it was "pretty silly." Mom thought it was cute and that "I certainly like the ladies."

I tried to get them to watch stuff, I thought maybe dad might go for Cowboy Bebop, but he never actually watched any of it. Same with my mom...I tried to show em a Ghibli film thinking they might like that, but they were always like "but Survivor is on" D:

I don't think the anime I have will interest my Dad at all. I know he likes explosions and gun fights, but I can't really show him an anime that has an excessive amount of gore in it, otherwise he'll start questioning what I'm watching. xD; He doesn't like outlandish plots, so Eureka seveN is out of the question.
Trigun might work, but it might be too much comedy. Eeergh, my Dad is so picky. >> Anyone have any suggestions?

Cowboy Bebop. No gorier than, say, what you would see in a PG-13 movie these days. It has an awesome, easy-to-follow story and the characters offset eachothers' personalities so perfectly it's hard not to love them. The only ridiculous (recurring) character is Ed, and she doesn't even show up until later in the series. It's action-packed from beginning to end, and has a beautiful jazzy soundtrack courtesy of Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. Plus, the animation is fantastic, especially considering it was all hand-drawn (mostly). The last three episodes are some of the most gripping in anime history, and the last scene nearly brings me to tears.

I don't know if you've watched it, if you have I'd assume you'd mention it as a good anime to show your dad. Since you didn't mention it, either you have seen it and just forgot or you have not seen it and therefore do not know of its status within the anime fandom as a good anime to appeal to western audiences, or dads. If you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, I suggest you watch it, it's all over the internet these days. After you watch it, you can decide whether it would be something your dad can enjoy. If you have seen it, though, then... well, I guess that's up to you if you have seen it. Trust me though, if you liked Trigun, you'll love Cowboy Bebop. And from the looks of it, your dad will too.

But, and this is the important question, did you let them know that you're a big deal on the internet?

My dad has watched some anime before like Saint Seiya and Dragonball Z. He would most likely watch anything actiony. My mom on the other hand doesnt like it that much and wont get anywhere near it.

Big O!! lol my mom would be amiss without Miyazaki. She discovered it before I did! But it's the only anime she'd watch. She's just a Disney fan and Miyazaki is Walt Disney to the Japanese so she relates (and Disney introduced it to her by localizing Mononoke, Spirited Away and all...). I can only see bad things coming out of this :/

Easy question for me. I AM the dad.

Yeah at 48 years old, I am the dad, and it's MY damned anime.

My son is ok with anime, hardly a shock there, he's a teen. He's 15. No idea if he will suddenly switch off it when he gets in his 20s or not.

But he at least doesn't need to fret over what I think of it. It's my Haruhi cloth wall scroll eh.

My dad watched Astro Boy on TV as a kid when it aired for the first time so he does have a somewhat old school anime background...I guess. Both my parents don't really mind me watching anime because they know not all animes are kiddy nonsense, they are quite aware of the really mature stuff. My mum could watch animes with ease since shes fluent with Japanese but my dad on the other hand would have a hard time, being unable to read subtitles fast enough or misunderstanding exactly what each sentence meant. My parents liked Death Note so I guess anything similar to that would work well for them, though they're into live action stuff a lot more and go to the cinemas frequently.

None of my family are interested in anime. My little brother was crazy about Pokemon when he was younger and he found Azumanga Daioh pretty funny, but he dosen't even know it's anime. They just kinda see it as 'another silly cartoon series' :|
I haven't even told anyone in real life I make AMVs and go on this site, because nobody would have a clue what I was talking about...
