That would be Battle of the Planets back in the 70's. Yes, I'm that old.

Followed by Star Blazers, Galaxy Express 999 and then Robotech. :D

Mine is a tough call between Robotech and Outlaw Star.
I think they both aired on Toonami after school. The first anime I really got into was certainly Outlaw Star. course I was around nine at the time. I even remember staying up late to catch Outlaw star on adult swim several months after adult swim stopped airing it.

I meant "after Toonami stopped airing it" If anyone could go back and edit that...

WE'RE OFF TO OUTER SPACE
WE'RE LEAVING PLANET EARTH

Toss in all the early eighties stuff here, along with stuff like the Noozles, Swiss Family Robinson, Robotech, and other fine vintage stuff here.

But my mother has you ALL beat. She watched Astro Boy in black and white in the 60s. She was borin in 1952, and would have been eleven when it began. Of the 193 episodes created in the series, 104 were adapted into the English version by Fred Ladd, and initially syndicated from September 1963 through August 1965, with repeats continuing until the series was withdrawn from syndication in the early 1970s.

She even beats Vlad.

Swiss Family Robinson... the version Disney ripped off, is an ANIMATED anime?? I never heard of that one.

I loved Robotech back in the 80's... but it was the books not the TV series. I knew what anime was for a long long time (not sure how though...) before I ever watched it :x. I'm probly the only one that can say that too :|

Nippon Productions did the work on Anne, Heidi, Swiss Family Robinson, and a host of other stuff under the banner title of Masterpiece Theatre. The new Anne series is under this banner to celebrate 100 years of Anne and 30 years since thr original series.
