Any free special effects programs for Windows?

Postby xPiikanyaa » Fri Oct 23, 2009 10:28 am

I use Vegas Movie Studio 9, but I can't achieve all the effects I want with it. Instead of upgrading to a different program, I was thinking of getting another program to use alongside Vegas.
Is there any FREEWARE programs that I could use to do stuff like masking, particle effects and video walls?

I'm pretty sure there isn't anything free available for what you want your program to meet. There is in fact programs that DO cost money and will meet your requirements. Try the trial.

Adobe After Effects
&
Particle Illusions

Even if you do find a freeware program..what i listed above is the best option if you want good results.

Can do it frame by frame in GIMP.
particle effects

should be possible with blender
and video walls?

not sure what you mean by this: as in different images that form a wall, a same image repeated, or something like a mosaic w/images?

Yeah, kinda like a mosaic with loads of different images. I've done it with still images and a hell of a lot of image editing, but I'm talking about with moving video clips...

I did try it in Wax 2.0, but it ended up blurred when I used Vegas to zoom in and pan across it like I wanted to. :?

You could make the wax composition/project/whatever of a really high res (like 3 or 4 times the actual res of the vegas project), so you'll just zoom out in the beginning to have it the same res and will have detail while zooming in. I never used wax so i don't know how it works, but it should be possible.

I actually don't know much about Wax either since I only got it a few weeks ago, but I've discovered how to mask using it, so that's one thing cleared up. Shame it's hard to get it perfect, but I guess that's just my lack of skill  lol

andreamosaic + a frame dump of the scene you want to do. Good luck getting into most NLEs at decent resolutions. I used a 17212 x 11475 total frame size for genkaiten, and those images were still pretty small when all was said and done.

Nothing good is free in this world your best bet is to go with softwares like Vegas, After Effects, and Photoshop. if you know how to use them correctly it is worth the money.
