what do you consider to be the best anime on dvd?
i couldnt help but point out the fact that just about every title i come across gets a different treatment on dvd, whether its being shorthanded or put into overkill

Hmmm...I'd definately say Wings of Honneamise.
Hehe, just joking ^^
I agree with all of the titles mentioned already.
My favorite anime on DVD has got to be Serial Experiments Lain. The quality brought out of the picture quality really makes it shine.
I thought Jin-Roh, Metropolis, and Cowboy Bebop also looked fantastic on DVD.

My vote goes too...
Excel Saga Volume 1: the weirdness has begun
Features:
. 5 complete episodes on one disk (about 125 minutes of Excel Saga anime)
. Your ACROSS membership card (let's see some enthusiasm out there!)
. Clean opening and closing videos.
. AD Vision cultural pop-up notes. (so you can actually understand the some of the more obscure Japanese joke and in-joke references.)
. Two Original Japanese trailers for Excel Saga, depicting it as first a war drama anime and then a romance anime (huh?)
. Original Japanese Video Privacy Warning
. Original English "Ilpalazzo is watching you" Warning
. Production sketches
. 6 ADV trailers for other Anime.
* English Dubbing that is accurate to the subtitles and actually sounds convincing (!!!)
Go buy it NOW, you will thank me later.

I'd have to say The Utena Movie is the best anime dvd I own. The video quality is just superb, and I loved the special features. Only thing I didnt like is that it wasn't film framerate, like it should have been.
Akira was also a good dvd release, with some nice extra features, I was extremely disappointed that the video was so noisy though!
Tenchi Muyo Collection was yet another really good set. The extras kept me entertained for a few hours, but whats up with including those images of the comics?? The images are so freaking small you cant read the text! Utterly pointless! Also the encoding quality of the episodes left a little to be desired, as they crammed like 7 eps per disc.

that would be Vandread from Pioneer. The video quality is of the best I've seen and is an example of how every Anime DVD should be: plenty of CG galleries, textless openings and endings, previews and trailers, and excellent quality video.
i can also tell you the worst (unfortunately):
Oh! My Goddess by AnimEgo. It literally looks like a cheap fansub VCD....ick!!
