I... can't... honestly remember whether this is true or not... but I distinctly remember video issues during the Fan Parodies a couple years because of something or other and them switching to other media and talking about 'while media is switched out we'll pop in another DVD' and at one point played Dr. Tran as well without any difficulty. So I think you're thinking more of the AMV contest because the Fan Parodies always seemed more 'play this after this' than anything else. I could be wrong but I seriously think it's less formally assembled than the AMVs. But I'll have some crisp 20s available at Otakon anyway :D We can make this work underground style if need be, trust me. I'll conceal some weapons just in case.

Edit: InspZenigata, I just saw "I'm On A Boat" for the first time... ...your choice is officially fucking perfect. The fact that the awesomeness I just saw was connected to Gurren Laggan in any way just made me get the anime... nicely done... nicely done.

You're welcome

"your choice is [...] fucking perfect" ~ what most of my friends said prior to my making the clip.

Definately expect me to make a full AMV off that song (hopefully with better quality footage) in the coming months. First I need my new computer to arrive!

The thing I think separated the current clip the most from the source is you don't hear the 'I'm on a boat' refrain at first, which would add a bit more time of course, but make the clip unmistakable. As well as solidify the subject, since recognizing the 'boat' aspect took until near the end of the clip if I hadn't heard the song before. Works for those who know the clip though, definitely.

I tend to want to see One Piece done to it just a tad more than Gurren Lagann for a full length one ^^ It's probably the only other anime with a crazy enough style that has gangsta shots of the characters to pull it off... not to mention the boat. After listening to it, I immediately started mapping out the timeframe for modeling all of the One Piece crew and ship and animating them at certain sections. ...the scariest part is it wouldn't take that long :D And they're some of the simplest characters out there. 'Specially when putting Nami and Robin in bikinis, an idea birthed thanks largely for your 'starboard bow' footage choice. Hehe, I really want to try it, but it'd definitely be time. Same with finding any one piece footage that isn't hard-subbed early on between DVDs released and when everything went MKV.

Course the real challenge would be to find out what would work well for 'Space Olympics' or 'Like a Boss'. Initially my guess would be Abenobashi Space episode, the Excel space clips, Cowboy Bebop, and Outlaw Star for the former, and Golden Boy as my starter for the latter. If I find that the clip has potential when I put some serious thought into it, I think I'll do a small Golden Boy 'Like a Boss' section next year.

Although if you guys like this idea for next year's credits, it'll be... a decent amount of work to make:

The Family Guy "Bird is the Word" clip gave me the idea. Deuce, how do you feel about doing a "Where the Hell is Matt?" parody (check j00tube if you haven't seen it) using that character's freaky dance loop in random locations in various anime as next year's credits (Full song or almost full song, since credits are about that long anyway, only problem is where production tags would go)? The hardest part aside from coming up with fun locations (around 70) is getting the footage which in most cases can be still frames screen-capped. And of course if I want to be completely insane, make looping masked gifs of any dance I can find for a 'crowd'. It'd totally be a project-wide thing that everyone could contribute to like location ideas or footage, but it'd have to be aligned early on with everyone's wishes.

I'd totally be up for that idea. Sounds fun!

Someone's already done One Piece to "I'm On A Boat" (check the main site). Plus, I think Gurren Lagann's brash manliness and hotheadedness best suits the "EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME COS I'M SAILING ON A BOAT" attitude of the song. Plus its boat is bigger.

Hehe, like I said, I wanna see it only a tad more ^^ And the One Piece vid has no link for it, so as far as I'm concerned, it don't exist. Plus if I actually did do them in 3D dancing... I don't believe anyone would mind a duplicate video.

I figure you'd be the person to ask, and I have my own suspicion about why,...but what's with everyone referring to episode 6 as "THAT episode?" I know I've seen it but maybe I wasn't paying enough attention...

Deuce the answer is quite simple...
Spoiler :
It's the series' "hot springs" episode!
In the uncensored (i.e. DVD only release) version of the episode, there is quite a bunch more fanservice going towards heavy ecchi. The villain of the episode actually has a remote control that either tightens or loosens the towels which she has the female subjects of the Gurren Brigade wearing. The towels are kinda like "smart straight jackets", and are more perv than anything else... although they are effective in restraining the girls.

Oh and Gimmy sticks his finger up Simon's BUTT. Yeah, "Parallel Works #5" was banned from j00Tube for a reason.... where Gimmy does it to everyone excep tYoko.

Also some rather cartoonish male nakedness. Mainly Gimmy. Yeah, you don't see Simon, Kamina, or anyone else... though Leeron does blush.

Now the reason why you have no idea the first spoiler occured...
Spoiler :
The censored version of that episode, which was televised in Japan/America and was the first copy of Episode 6 to be released fansubbed, substituted all of the inappropriate matterial with a very unneeded "recap". You remember how long that recap was? Yeah, LOTS of material to censor.

FunFact: It's also the LAST episode to feature the random comedy that the producers thought the series was going to mainly consist of. Ya know, more one-shot episodes with no overall arc. This plan changed and is ironically started at the end of this very episode! Thus we have the plot arc heavy series that we know and love unconditionally today.

To be honest I didn't get any joke with FMP. I thought the Adobe part was chuckle-tastic.

Kinda like my opinion on the "I wanna destroy you" clip. I actually thought the katamari and pucca clips worked amazingly well... I had no clue why FMA was even in there. It really was not fun at that point. :|

I would say for the 'destroy you' one it was just... a bit too much of a jaunt. Three completely unrelated pieces of footage in every way in an anime-based parody, and FMA was seemingly tossed in for good measure after the first two. Plus the Katamari commercial was completely unrelated to the song except very indirectly, so I admit some confusion with that one. I can't say I don't like it, but I didn't find it laughably funny, more on the amusing side. But AMA liked it, so I want to see what people react to at Otakon for the clips I don't understand myself. Then again I feel like I'm the only one who friggan lost it at the Wall-E one. I laughed really hard at that one, although looking at my style of comedy in my vids I guess that's not really surprising :?

As for FMP, the juxtaposition is a really fine line when using anime in film. In this case, I liked it for some reason. Again, it wasn't quite laugh-out-loud funny, but if I had to define it, it's more like 'omg, those totally do describe Sousuke perfectly.' I've been a proponent of removing the Premiere reference because I don't believe those two jokes have any business overlapping as they do. If it was a Premiere joke, it should be created from the ground up for it. In every case I'd err on the side of the original video's purpose. If it didn't get a reaction at AMA, I personally believe it was for the same reason I couldn't really react: it was too much unrelated information. Plus jabbing at a program after I've had to learn several is kinda backwards for me, since I finally accepted it's only really annoying if I don't know the programs functionality well enough. So it's a shallow joke to me, reminding me of when I was blaming my software for my lack of ability to control it :D Good times... good times...

As for text in Kung Fu Panda, if you wanted to leave the actor's names in there, make them centered on the screen with more definition, like a soft drop shadow or, even better, a light stroke so it doesn't look so thrown together (The text jumping around makes it distracting, when it's not supposed to be a focus). Then I'd say remove all the 'awards' text because EVERY cut in that clip has text on it and it gets cumbersome, especially when it's a block of comment text covering half the screen. I'm uncertain if I like the fake comments in it, but they are hard to read, so they definitely need a stroke if they remain at all. That may bump it up a level.

Soon, my friends, soon...as in later today...you'll see the rewrite.

All reworked clips placed, known bugs repaired, shiny new graphics thrown in, and a clip arrangement that I think will smooth out the overall flow of the project.

The new running time is about 20:21 after chopping about 45 seconds from the closing credits and taking out the "Funny Farm" clip.

Stay tuned for the mp4...

Whoops...well, the one thing I meant to do that I forgot about was to place an MTV logo with a picture of Heino in a thought bubble shared by the two characters at the end. After that, this clip will be good for a WTF (but in a good way ;)). And after what I just went through rearranging everything and repairing the clips that needed it - and the Haruhi one was a pain in the ass - I'm not adding or subtracting any more clips. Sorry. :P

After watching it, this rewrite does flow a lot better and the new graphics made a great deal of difference. Tune in later today and find out how...

Look forward to seeing it! Please expect that it is likely you will probably have one final VERY SMALL list of suggestions/requests considering how much you've changed, but you definitely won't have to do what you've just gone through again (this year) :D

Trying to salvage Gunther isn't worth it this time so I hope you'll listen to Krvabo's wishes. Taking a clip that doesn't work on its own and trying to make it work without reconsidering the original idea is extremely risky and rarely works. InspZenigata and I disagree on the Premiere idea, obviously, but it's simply because I think it would be better as two jokes with more focussed clips for each rather than two overlapping jokes, that's all. Since that's not possible this late in the game, I agree with Sakuraslight in retaining the original anime-based joke.

And don't let the rearranging scare you away from removing one more :) You make me scared of Vegas, though; it sounds like a nightmare to work with if removing something is a difficult prospect
