To interrupt for a moment and address the original issue, ignoring completely the points already made about why one makes AMVs and what one likes/doesn't like dictating what one does...I'm going to throw out random statements.

If - going back to the beginning of AMV time - everyone only edited in a manner considered "orthodox" by the rest of the AMV community, there are a number of AMVs which would not have made such a huge impact on the community and indeed changed the very nature of "orthodox" AMV editing. The term "old school" is bandied about precisely because what once was accepted as the norm has evolved into something else. Now, this doesn't mean your "unorthodox" style of editing is inevitably destined for transformational mass appeal, but it does suggest that pushing the envelope and trying new things is a pervasive part of this hobby and nothing to frown on.

While there are certain things we are hardwired to respond to, it's also the case that we're not all hardwired to the exact same degree. This is why most people react negatively to murder...except for serial killers. Now, I'm not saying you're on par with a serial killer, TC, but hopefully you see my point. In your case, so-called "unorthodox" editing isn't fundamentally wrong or sub-par, it's just different. And we all know how people treat things that are different. Yes it's frustrating and can feel very unfair, but that's just the way things are. I'm personally glad that this community we've got here is capable of and interested in discussing such subjects. Imagine how much worse it would be if every time someone did something "unorthodox" they were basically run out of town? Perhaps this is what you feel is happening to you, but...you're still here and people still like your videos, so maybe being "unorthodox" isn't such a heinous crime.

What I got from that is that TwilightChrono is a trend-setting serial killer.

You expect less from someone who cannibalized Asahina?

But yes, TwilightChrono could indeed be the Hannibal Lecter of the AMV world.

After the first 3 pages, I kinda glazed my eyes over...

But, to be on topic, orthadox vs. unorthadox.

You're editing for the same reason as me sorta. [at least your op seems to give me that impression] You want to be worshiped like teh AMV Gawdz...

"Nothing I do will ever be GOOD enough..."

I was under the impression that if I made an amv and got a handful of people to like it [say, 30], then from a newbie perspective that's not bad at all. So my first several amvs were designed as dance amvs because back then, they were rare, and I liked the music and people seemed to agree. After that, like 10 or so, I made an amv dedicated to my g/f [now wife] and did it in such a way that only I WOULD LIKE IT and nobody else could say otherwise for me to give a shit. Oddly though, people loved the vid anyway... ^_^

Do opinion exchanges when you can. Personally, I think the quick comment function on this site kinda murders opinions in this 'must be fast' world of ours. The best way to get creative criticism is through the good ole' opinion.

Murderously epic amvs [Euphoria] or sugar overdosed fun amvs [Skittles, etc.] aren't the only good amvs out there. Some of the best AMVs I've seen have less than 10 opinions. :(

When I started, I had two people as my main 'teachers' of amv editing. One was ErMaC and the other was icechai. Bless them both...

I think your problem is that you're trying to get advice from several people when the fact is you really only need 1 mentor whose videos you love. If they're hypocrites then you just gotta find others I guess... I'm from the ancient school of editing where my first amvs were using digisubs [cringe]. I can give you advice if you wish with an op exchange...

If orthadox involves following society's rules [amv society? lol] then I'm all for un-orthadox. As long as there's a solid theme and good execution in showing off what you think is a work of art. Then do it. I hate DBZ Linkin' Bark with a hate that knows no depth so even a good LBZ amv would never get my attention. That's just part of being an opinionated human. I edit lyric parts of an amv first then do the instrumentals. I suppose that's unorthadox since most editors just edit from beginning to end with no breaks.

But that's just me... ^_^ Yay un-orthadox!

Same here! ^^ I had slightly lower expectations, though--I was hoping that one person would like it when I made my first AMV. ^^

The last thing we need is something to make our world go even faster: it's moving at a dizzying pace as it is. Also, people feel safer when they're anonymous and then they can tear your AMV apart without any fear of repercussion.

But that's just me... ^_^ Yay un-orthadox!

With the exception of four Lupin AMV-makers, those who make Lupin AMVs do it for the love of the series. Uniform art style be damned, we're going to use clips from 1974 to 2009. Lighting? Who needs it? It's all for fun, anyways. Special effects? Less than half use fades. What I'd like to know is if orthodox editors have fun making AMVs. But I guess if you have to incorporate music theory, art theory, and the theory of making someone's head hurt with all those continuous flashing white lights, it's not fun, anymore. I guess art isn't fun, either. Art is pain and suffering. So how many orthodox AMV-editors are simply fans and not artists? I mean if you are artists, that's great to hear, but are you also fans?

In the beginning, there was analog. And it was good. And the government came down upon the masses and said unto them, "Hark, man has created a great technology called television. For the good of the consumer we must standardize this miraculous medium." Thus NTSC was born.
