This time it's a more advanced issue so it will most likely be upwards of $1000. And honestly, those videos are worth that much to me.

I did manage to get the premiere project file and some of the avs scripts off of it before it was unreadable so I could re-rip the dvds but at this point it's too much work when I'm already swamped with other responsibilities. I would need at least another week to get everything ripped, finish filling up the timeline, and then fine tune my edits. Just not enough time.

This is why I have a 3 independent drive arrays in my editing system so I can actually maintain 2 copies of all the projects I work on... It would of probably have been cheaper for you to buy the drives and make backups :nono: This now sounds expensive  :(

Do that, but don't run data recovery software if you intend to send it off to a data recovery warehouse. That software will mangle the existing data and hurt your chances of getting stuff back.

And yeah, what Vlad said. My RAID-5 backed up weekly to a NAS looks cheap compared to your options at this point. And even that is overkill since there is a standby drive, so in order to lose anything I'd have to have a second drive fail within 10 or so hours of the first drive failure. Imagine the shitstorm that would ensue if I lost all of this year's videos, today ;)

I have a new system in the works and I'm planning on adding some kind of backup solution to it: either raid 1 or nightly backup to a NAS (or both... hard drives are cheap now). This would be my 3rd or 4th hard drive crash and I still haven't implemented any backup solutions. I think if I keep that in mind for my next system build, I have a better chance of actually doing it, lol.

Uploading now! I'm so glad I decided to check the forums! I'd been keeping an eye on the site and hadn't seen any news and then checked here to realize I only had a week left! Good thing it was pretty much done!

Well *crosses fingers* third time's the charm, eh? At least I went for one of the least-used categories this time rather than most used.

Good luck everyone!

Always remember to back up your stuff!

Oh no! That is horrible news! Sorry to hear that Pwolf... :( I always look forward to your AMVs and it looks like I'll have to wait to see some of your new stuff. I hope you still have the motivation to restart/re-do the ones you lost. I heard there is a way for professionals to recover lost data on failed hard drives but it's massively expensive and it's not guaranteed to recover all the files.

I can't blame you there. It would be too much stress to try to get it in now and even then, you probably wouldn't be able to make it by the deadline. I'm glad you were able to get a few things off of it before complete hard drive failure though.

Ouch, $1000 huh? I knew it would be expensive, but I wouldn't have guessed that much! It's a shame that they won't be premiering at Otakon this year, :( but I'll be keeping an eye out for them later on when you upload to the org. Good luck with your data recovery and I hope everything works out for you.

If at first you don't succeed, try again in a few minutes. The FTP server/signup page comes out of my house, so when my cable modem loses sync, it goes down for a minute or two.

Why is my video 20,795,897 bytes on the disk, but is 20, 795, 611 bytes on the FTP client? Can I verify if I sent in the wrong file?
