I fail to comprehend how anybody could not like this show.

That's because you are a fucking idiot where the concept of "people's individual opinions" escapes your tiny, feebly mind. Did you ever once stop to consider not everyone likes what you like? Of course not, you're too busy shunning them for not being a hiveminded little bitch like yourself. That's right, the world does not [gasp] revolve around you and what you deem to be appropriate material for viewing. To be honest I could care less what you think, but at least try to keep your stupidity from leeking all over the goddamn forum, the last thing I want to see when I refresh the page is you replying to every single fucking forum on this site, only to see you left a stupid one-liner that really does nothing to help the conversation, or even be redeemably humorous. Oh, and before you give me some bullshit response telling me to lay off, how about you consider posting decent, not LOLRANDUM comments that help the discussion in some course or another. Otherwise, take your sorry ass back to elementary school kid.

Have you ever checked out your profile's "friend and foe" feature? it works miracles.

nah ANN reviewers just piss me off because they are more bias in favour of mainstream crap like Cowboy Bebop than some of the more weaboo anime which I think make the anime franchise memorable =P Its just like how IGN now sucks balls at reviewing JRPGs because they are like "OmG ThIS SuXxORZ CoZ ITS NOT LIEK MASS EFFECT, FALLOUT 3!!!111!!!1 WESTERN RPGS > JRPGS LOLOLOL!!!"

Mainstream, just a word meant to make 'lowest common denominator' look better.

Most stuff in the mainstream is usually just there because it was marketed enmasse.

It's not automatically a reflection of quality, more an indication of quantity.

Most of my hobbies are not mainstream in some fashion.

Mainstream just means it appeals to a wide audience, doesn't mean it's the best. Stuff the appeals to specific audiences are more likely to appeal to those specific audiences more than the mainstream stuff.

god Hasteroth you really gotta lay of the sarcasm button it's really wrecking the atmosphere.

totally ot but I don't know what is a jrpg and what is not anymore... like FF12 (non turn based battles or are they?), JRPG or not? Jade Empire (just as turn based as FF12), JRPG or not? European made RPGs made in a console/ japanese style, JRPG or not? Then there are stereotypical JRPGs like Lost Odyssey that do not innovate at all so the general majority of what is CLEARLY JRPGs is simply at a disadvantage to Fallout and the crew since they're NEW and COOL ('innovate' but the only reason why they say that is cuz they've not seen many of them before...). With such an unclear perspective it's easy to say the inferior (due to it not evolving in any way) one is worse, but that's just because it's already been evolved. Everybody knew there were PC RPGs (Western RPGs) up there with JRPGs even back when FF7 came out yet Diablo and Ultima didn't try to steal FF7's time in the sun. Now it's just backwards. Lay off and the tide will change.

also mainstream DOES mean it's the best, sorry.

if it appeals to MOST ppl (or more ppl) than MORE ppl think of it as better, it is more better THUS it is BEST. Given that's just taken from a marketing viewpoint. But when your hearing it from a reviewer (in this case ANN reviewing Clannad) it's typically in that lingo. If you want to know what is best for YOU there is no other way but for you to try it. How is he supposed to know everybodies personalities? Mainstream is the layman's term for best. Don't fight it.

There was no sarcasm there. I was serious. But what I meant was, mainstream isn't always best for YOU. It's best for MORE people but that doesn't make it the BEST it just means that alot of people like it. I personally greatly dislike Naruto, many MANY people would disagree with my opinion of Naruto.

If you don't like what ann says.. eff em! Whether or not you like something is entirely up to you. I liked clannad, but it wasn't really a "good" anime in my opinion. The storyline was very easy to predict (considering key has a habit of killing off all the lovable characters) so I wasn't really able to enjoy it too much.

Mainstream sells because its dumbed down enough so that it can fit into the minds of the ignorant masses.
If you consider something such as Naruto or Evangelion to be the best just because people know about them, we can escort you to the children's area.

What I consider to be among "the best" fit into a specific species of anime that doesn't get done often, and definitely isn't "mainstream". The episodic story tales. These are things like Kino's Journey, Mushishi, GITS SAC, Paranoia Agent, and Bartender. These anime don't follow a set storyline but show the one-episode adventures of the characters as they meet new people and their ordeals. What we get are fascinating stories that give us an insight into human nature that we rarely see in anime. These ones aren't the best because everyone has seen them. These are the best because someone who has seen the world of anime for what it is can appreciate what they got out of these more than what they got elsewhere.
You can't judge what you haven't seen, and you can't appreciate a great work of literature if you have the experience of a third-grader.

It's easy to say that the Sun is the biggest star in the universe when its the closest one to you.
