NVOtB suggestion

Postby Scintilla » Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:03 pm

Could we possibly change a video's chance of making New Vid On the Block from being a function of date entered and date uploaded to being a function of date AVAILABLE and date uploaded? I'd think that would be fairer.

It's actually sorted by date_premiered and then by date_entered if there are multiple videos with the same premiere dates. If a video premiered in the past, it isn't really a "new vid" anymore, even if it were uploaded today.

But doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of new vid on the block? I mean, I would think people want to see what vids are *new to the site*, and wouldn't really care if it's premiered at a con the previous day.

I gotta wonder, how often does anyone actually download something just because they saw it in NVOtB anyway?

I tried to download a video I saw on NVotB called "Imaginary Friends Forever" based purely on the title.

Unfortunately it was actually two videos: "Imaginary" and "Friends Forever".

Yea, it's really annoying that there is little visual information to differentiate between the titles of different vidz on the block.

I've actually taken up a habit of DLing those videos. Most of the time I come across videos from editors new to the Org. Generally, they're usually not amazing, but it's how I find newer editors that may have potential. I watch their video, leave a quick comment with some feedback and invite them to come the forums for more feedback on their video. Most of the time, I do end up seeing them make an announcement thread. It's a good way to get new people to become active.

But generally, I just recently started doing this. I've been on this site for years and havent paid much attention to the NVOtB and am not sure if others do either. However, since I became a donator, I havent done it at all. The NVOtB is just too cluttered :| . At least put spaces in between the individual videos. Spaces with bullets to the left of the title would be really nice.
