Looking for an investigation story + girl

Simple idea here, I'm damn sure there is an anime that can fit this but can't quite put my finger on it...

Scenario: there is a (male) detective/investigator/news reporter who is working on some kind of gruesome murder/suicide/accident(s). The catch is that this dude has to have a daughter/family member/friend whom he cares about wants to keep protected and not exposed to the gruesome nature of his work.

Anything come to mind?
Would appreciate anything that sounds kind of similar or could be bent in that direction!

I x3 Speed Grapher. Though not not a father/daughter thing, Saiga and the girl (forgot her name) have the sort of protector relationship you're looking for.

To offer up another suggestion, maybe you could bend Paranoia Agent to your concept.
