Good DVD ripping program[s]?

Postby ZhaneX » Thu Feb 26, 2009 1:51 am

does anyone know of a good (Preferably free) program (or programs) to remove the copy protection from a DVD and then rip it to a file on a computer, and also keeping the quality of the DVD?

DVDfab works for me ^_^ I like it .. however, it is not frame accurate 100% of the time!
( de-interlacing is not something I worry about as an animator; all I need is the Concept. )
DVDfab can also convert the rip directly to .mp4 video and audio when payed for and registered. 8-)

Usually I just use AnyDVD from Slysoft. Also with it running in the background Sony Vegas will recognize the DVD and I can make the clips directly. Hope it Helps.

dvd decrypter Is probably what you'll find the most help for on these forums, seeing as that's what's included in the AMVapp.

I've looked around, and it looks like DVD decrypter is no longer updated, and no longer Freeware. ??? Am I wrong?
Absolute truth is objective, but in reality truth can only be viewed as subjective through our own personal perspectives.

DVD Decrypter stopped being updated 4 years ago because of Macrovision's threats/action. 'Freeware' doesn't enter into it anywhere - it was always free, that never changed. It's also still freely available online in various places.

The burning engine from DVD Decrypter was distilled separately and has continued on as ImgBurn, though. It's still being updated.

Thing is, the DVD standard is limited to the kind of copy protection measures it can use and still be compliant. Just because a ripping program is several years old doesn't mean it won't work. Copy obfuscation measures (like ARccOS) work by exploiting standard deviations in the format spec itself - which means that some ripping programs will see through it, and others won't (and it's not always clear which apps belong to which side; SmartRipper was shown to be able to handle some discs that DVD Decrypter chokes on, and SmartRipper hasn't been updated in like, six or seven years).

anyone ever use ImgBurn for DVD ripping for AMVs? works good?

I like DVD Decrypter, but i fear I might hit a disc one day where it has issues ripping, I would like to avoid this, if ImgBurn is better/updated, doesn't have ripping issues and so forth.

ImgBurn doesn't rip anything, it's a burning program/ISO builder. The most you can do with it is copy the entire disk to an ISO.

Hi im new to the forum and also trying to find a decent editing and ripping tool. So far Ive only used windows movie maker (yuck) and torrented raws that look terrible.

I was reading through the amvapp 3.0 Beta list but im not sure what all the programs will do for me or what there used for. If anyone has a brief explination or a quick link to somewhere that does I would appreciate it
