VDub 1.88 (stable) 64-bit

Postby AaronAMV » Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:32 pm

I've been having some problems with VDubMod lately, so I decided to try regular VDub. I tried to 1.90 build, but it's still in the experimental form so it has some bugs-- it wasn't working too well for me. Now that I try to do the 1.88 build, I try to import a .avi and it says:
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

I try to import a lossless .avi with the lagarith codec, no luck. It says the same thing except with LAGS.
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'LAGS' (unknown)

Then I try to import a .avs and it says...
AVI Import Filter error: (Unknown) (80040154)

Any help? :|

The 64-bit version of VDub requires 64-bit versions of those codecs, from what I understand. I suppose the same would be true of needing a 64-bit AviSynth build as well.

Heh, I suppose that would make sense. :amv:
I found a 64-bit version of the codecs I need, but I can't find a 64-bit build for avisynth. I tried going to the doom9 forums, but they wouldn't load. ;-;

Link for direct download possibly?

At times when Doom9 and Sourceforge won't load, I see if I can get there using MyProxySite.org - surprisingly, it actually works most of the time (although sometimes the sites are just down, period).

Doing so, I found this directory:
http://members.optusnet.com.au/squid_80/

I think the version of AviSynth for 64-bit might still be 2.5.6, though. I couldn't see any verification on that. I also don't know if it's a case of switching out the DLL or anything like that, considering I don't have a 64-bit OS to work with (save for Ubuntu 8.10, but I'm not about to try to get this stuff working with Wine).

Alternately, I'd just see about getting the regular 32-bit VDub and if that works, then all the 32-bit codecs should work as they're meant to.

Well, the 32-bit isn't working, I try to go to change the compression, and VDub stops working. >.>

Now I've downloaded all the .dll's and source codes and all of that, where do I put it?

My guess - go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 (or whatever it is on Vista or XP64, if the two differ) and swap out the avisynth.dll that's in there for the 64-bit one. But make a backup of the 32-bit one, because if the 64-bit doesn't work, you can still fall back to the old one. The same would generally hold true for the other 64-bit codecs as well.

Er... I don't even see an avisynth.dll in there. ;-;

Damnit, no edit button...

Should I just place the .dll's in there if nothing is there in the first place?

If you downloaded the virtualdub source code, you don't want to put that anywhere because it's useless to you.

Alright, but that still doesn't explain what I should do. But thanks for the heads up.

In any case, yes, avisynth.dll should go in C:\WINDOWS\system32. After putting it there, you probably will need to register it. Start->Run... and enter this into the dialog:

regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\avisynth.dll"

And click OK.

The module "C:\Windows\system32\avisynth.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
Make sure that "C:\WINDOWS\system32\avisynth.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again

Er...

Well, with the DLL just being in there does AviSynth work? If it does, then you don't need to bother registering it.

Nope, but there is an AviSynth.Reg in the folders I downloaded.

Then my only other guess is to put the .reg file in C:\WINDOWS\system32, and then double-click on it so that it can load itself into the registry (note: this more than likely requires being run as Administrator).
