Fading In Bordered Boxes w/Nice Text Effects in Vegas

Postby TwilightChrono » Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:09 am

Basically, here is an example of what I am trying to do:
_________ _________
l l l l
l l l l
l________l l_________l

[Text Fades In Here]

_________ _________
l l l l
l l l l
l________l l_________l

That's what I meant. I want to fade the boxes in but I want them to be bordered. I want to fade them onto a black background. And there is going to be video masked into them. But I want the boxes to fade in first. Then the text will come up timed to the lyrics. But The text effect I want I don't know how to do in Vegas. Basically, it's a text effect best illustrated at the beginning of Warheart's Intrday Dereliction AMV. I don't know how to make the text slide to the right or left and fade and and blur in and out like that using Vegas.

I've tried, but nothing I try works.

I'm not looking for that background he has. Just the text effect, and was wondering how you do that. It's actually the final part of my AMV, and I need to know. If anyone can tell me, it would be awesome. Thanks, guys. Any and all help is appreciated.

what about the text can you not do? just fade the text like you would any other clip, and as for bordered boxes, just use the cookie cutters?

you gotta think of it in layers, it sounds like you are going to need at least 5 layers to pull this off... though ive never seen warheart's video and im too lazy to look it up

So... like a .png file you can make with the GIMP that has transparency? You can import it into your editor, and put it on a layer above your video, then you can pan/zoom the image on the screen-- it can be treated the same ways as any clip, except that it has an alpha channel [transparency]. Save the following image and try importing it into Vegas to see if it does what you want:

Here:

Look at the text effect at the beginning of this. That is the kind of text effect I am talking about.....everything about that effect, I wanna do....except use a different font. And maybe reverse the direction it's going in. Maybe to the left?

You'll see what I am trying to do with the text once you see this.

Thanks for the help so far. Any more help would be appreciated.

ok, then I'm confused about the boxes you mentioned, but anyway, that was made with After Effects.
Although the concept might be similar.
It looks like he took an image like the one above,
-chose the font he liked,
-added a gradient that feathers to the left and right
-[or maybe just a duplicate of the text with lots of horizontal blur]
-maybe added some glow
-panned it in the direction he wanted [x,y position]
-added minor shake
-faded it in and out
-applied some sort of morph/warp/distort and blur at the same time as the fades.

I think most of these things can be done with an image editor and Vegas with keyframes or effects curves, except maybe the morph thing...

But I'll let a Vegas User answer that. *slips out of topic*
