Munto (TV)

Munto (TV) (well, there's that other name, but that one is so freakin' long! >_< )

Well, here it is, Kyoto Animation's own original anime project! And not to mention this is the first time they're doing two projects simultaneously along with Clannad After Story. With the first episode premiered, there are a few things that needs to be noted. From the looks it (and probably for the next few episodes as well), anyone who has already seen the Munto OVAs released from Central Park Media, you're better off not watching this. Unfortunately the first episode reused pretty much most of the first half of the first OVA, and you can tell with how strikingly different the character designs between the episode and the actual OP and ED sequences.

So pretty much most of the criticism Carlo made in the OVA will be apparent in this episode especially with this "tug-of-war" between Yumemi's school life, which was pretty engaging in its own right, and the Heavenly World which was hard to get into or even care for. The only things different is pretty much the new voice talent in this series compared to the OVA, and the series is in widescreen (and I think there's a new soundtrack as well, right?).

With that in mind, some of you may have to wait for the next few episodes until KyoAni actually produces new original episodes. :|

Personally, I think it's a good idea to recap both movies since not many people saw them and for the rest of us to remind ourselves of what's going on in the show (although I would've appreciated it if it were slightly faster).

I'm currently half way through the first ep. The Graphic Design teacher caught me watching it this morning so I didn't finish.

The OVA's were utter crap IMO, I can only hope they're able to do better with the series.

This is why KyoAni should just stick to one series only, high quality is the key. When I saw Munto's first 2 eps and compared with Clannad, I really saw some problems comparing the two as being the same company.

And now you say all of it is recycled / cleaned footage? EEEP...

Not cool KyoAni, that's not cool at all...

"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

Keeping in mind the time difference between the two... Clannad is one of Kyoto Animation's more recent works, whereas Munto was one of the first.

Any way, I've been looking forward to this since it was announced awhile back, I enjoyed the short OVAs and when I heard they were getting a longer series I was pretty excited about it. I've only seen a few screens of the first episode, which seems to be re-telling the OVA, so I hope when I get back there'll be some new content to see from them.

I wasn't happy with the fact that they took almost 6 episodes to re-cap both movies and only threw in tidbits of new animation in some scenes. I was literally getting ticked off every time a new episode came out subbed. I'm also surprised they decided to re-use the movies' animation! Everyone looks so different with the new animation, so I've no idea how people who haven't seen the movies didn't catch this. o_0
And the anime overall was so SHORT! 'Though there will be a continuation (another movie, right?) so... I'm alright with that.
They could've explained a ton of stuff that happened in the end better too. Incredibly confusing.
