Regional Encoding

Postby Ashton » Sat Nov 23, 2002 10:26 pm

Alright, so I'm in Japan, and I've purchased some region 2 DVDs. I like them, and when I'm back in the states I'd like to use them for a vid. How is it that I can use my DVD-rom in my computer to read region 2 DVDs?

You have to do a couple things:

1) Make sure your DVD-Rom drive is RPC1 (i.e. unlocked). All drives manufactured after 2000 are RPC2 drives. You can flash the firmware on your drive to be regionless if someone has hacked a regionless firmware for it. The biggest archive of these is here:

2) Get DVD Genie from http://www.inmatrix.com/ and use it to hack your software DVD player to be the region of the disc (in this case, 2). Then run it, close it, and you should be able to rip the disc with smartripper.
