After talking it over with some people, this was the best solution that I could come up with. Some people had the idea of letter boxing the fullscreen tracks, but I'm just against that. I think it'll look weird with black bars on the left and right side. Onyx brought to my attention that resizing and croping may take away from the editing a person put into it. So if you are editing a full screen track, choose which ever option you are most comfortable with.

Meh, I strongly disagree, but I suppose it's been decided. What's wrong with moving borders? Worked for other MEPs. And I'm not sure what you mean by black bars on the left and right of the screen.

So, how do I letterbox my footage without squishing it or losing half of my footage?

If we decide to letterbox full screen tracks, we would have black space (or bars on the side). Like how this video does: http://tinyurl.com/6je2yl
We could do this and use the same method that other meps use with wide screen tracks and just have them transition to that, but my argument against this is that matted/letterboxed wide screen is normal in AMVs and television, whereas letterboxed full screen isnt.

So, how do I letterbox my footage without squishing it or losing half of my footage?

First, dont squish your footage. If you choose to resize and crop, you have three methods of control:

Method 1:
Before editing, resize and then crop your footage, cutting off the top and bottom. Essentially, you are loosing an amount of footage this way. That is why you do this before editing so it doesnt effect it as much as doing it at the end would because you see the end product while editng

Method 2:
Instead of cropping out the top and bottom all time, you can choose to crop the bottom sometimes and the top in other places. You can base it off the scene. Even though this is complicates things for the editor, it does give you more control over your footage. Basically, if someone is standing and the footage originally shows half his body from waist to head at 640x480, you can choose to crop the bottom when resizing, taking away some footage of his waist versus taking some from both the waist and head because the head may be more important to the shot and you want it to completely show.

Method 3:
You choose to just submit a 640x480 video, you have keep in mind that it will be cropped from the top and bottom and this gives you the least control.

What he means is, the whole mep with be in 848 x 480. If you give us a 640 x 480 track, it would have black bars on the left and right. Unless everyone is very familiar with your source and is extremely anal, no one will even care if its cropped and resized. It looks good, I do it all the time. Do not just crop the top (or bottom) because that will stretch the footage and it will look ugly. If you use avs, a good way to make your footage 848 x 480 is to use this crop / resize script

crop(0,60,-0,-60)
lanczosresize(848,480)

Obviously you will need to crop the left and right according to your source.

I do this all the time and it looks good 95% of the time so its not a huge loss. All the action is usually centered in the middle of the screen anyways :awesome:

I've got my source looking the way I want it, thanks to LittleAtari. I started editing for a little while ago.

For the record, I am using Godannar.

Has everyone else decided on their source? I guess I need to go look at the main page XD

I told you the script still needed work = /. It's not efficient and I dont think the footage is what it can be. Post it in the AviSynth thread or get on AIM so we can get in depth with cleaning it.

No no no. I didn't mean I edited with the footage we did last night.

I cleaned it up a little more, and it's pretty much looking spot on. I'll get on though.

I've been working on my track today and I fixed some of those storyline problems that were discussed in the convo. I should have something noteworthy for you to look at here in a couple of hours or so.

ok, i look forward to seeing it soon.

Speaking of betas, Onyx has been nice enough to let us use his server to host them to each other. I figure this was a nice way to organize things, as it will allow us to browse through everyone's work and download them from one spot. The main thing I want out of this is for everyone to keep watch of each others work and give feedback. I will be sending you all the ftp info via PM along with some rules pertaining to it.

Sorry I've been off for the last couple of days. I went to a friends house and relieved some editing stress/blues by pulling a day and a half kegger and Playing PS3 While watching AMV's on a 52 Inch LCD Television, XD Gotta love it. I'm sober now, and am commencing on editing as we speak.

Did I mention that it was a kegger with Heineken and Bud Light? XD

Ahhhhh, good times.

Editing stress? I don't think it's supposed to work that way. lol Always good to have fun though.

Anyways, I can't find Busou Renkin anywhere. I'm still looking though.

And the Jan 10th deadline is looking very undo-able for me. Will let you know if I need more time when deadline approaches.

Greywers has been dropped because we havent heard from him since he claimed his track in the previous thread. I PMed him some time ago. He's logged in a couple of times since then and has chosen to ignore it.

If I am mistaken in anyway and someone here knows him. Let me know.

So we got one slot open. Anyone know someone that'd be interested in the spot?

I may know someone. Her name here on the org is Amo-Chan, I talk to her on the phone frequently, so, I'll see what I can do. She is a very very good editor, if you want to see her work as proof, then Check out her Yokata AMV. That should be proof enough. I'll see what I can do....no promises, but she did express interest. So LittleAtari, go ahead and check out that vid if you can, just so you know what you will be dealing with. XD I'll call her tomorrow.

Everyone else, see if you can round up someone, or see if you now anyone that has expressed interest or might be interested. Would be best, in the aftermath that Amo-Chan can't do it.
