only kidding you made some good points but, valentine seems a bit reactive to the subject of porn both pro and con, i've seen some of her other replies on the subject.porn was one of many issues and the replies i'm most looking for is suggestions on how to promote the anime genre in the U.S., because of human nature, the thread could center on the sex issue which is part of a whole and as i feared, sex dominated in the discussion rather than contributed. as an artform i support the anime movement and i gave my reasons and many of the constructive aspects of the genre were pointed out. valentine took my remarks where i didn't want them to go and i felt that my point was totally ignored and it was. if you would offer promotional suggestions i welcome them please the same with valentine and others

OK, that's cool I just didn't want negativity to build. :D

Anyways, I think that anime is slowly getting a larger fanbase anyways. I became a fan because of Tenchi Universe (though it wasn't the first anime I watched). It sort of snowballed after that. And it was basically one guy who got me into anime by making me watch this one show.

Then I got my sister into anime and also one other friend sort of (I do mean sort of, only time will tell).

I think if each anime fan helps make at least one, or if they can more fans, it will grow into something massive in a decade or two.

Maybe a few of us on this site will become animators, or famous, and say how oh yeah anime influenced me blah blah blah, kids check it out.

And also if some of eventually have companies which release anime, we should strive to make it good, and market it well.

Please do not forcefeed people anime, start with something light, if you force people too much they will end up hating it (also show them don't tell them, until they seem interested, the last thing you want is people thinking anime is boring).

Specifically I think if Blockbuster or DVD/VHS rental agencies had a special offer for anime rentals for some time, or had an offer were renting a certain video allowed someone to rent a anime title for free as well, this could create new fans.

T.V. execs can help in some respects. Maybe create an anime cable channel.

Just throwing out ideas, there are many more.

Don't feel you have to stick to this line of thought (If you read all the threads you'll see how multiple questions are being answered at once).

... Hey I missed this thread :?
axron27, you have some serious issues that should be worked out.
Back on topic... Interesting that AnimEgo was brought up. The only DVDs I've seen from them are the Oh My Goddess DVDs. Interestingly enough, they were in NTSC!
Ian, yourself or some other anime fans, uni clubs, etc should contact Madman and see what can be done about organising something like that. They're really down-to-earth guys and I'm sure they'd be willing to offer some advice, tips, starting points.
As for televising anime, I think it's just wrong... ::ducks barrage of the words "elitest prick":: if it must be shown, it should be done on the multicultural networks (My knowlege of American television is little to none)and as rarely as possible. This board is starting to fill up with people who watch too much televised anime, who barely have the slightest clue as to what else is available to them. If they were to just off the TV, go outside, buy some DVDs (kinda ruins the mood about turning off the TV), joined/started an anime club and went that extra bit further with their appreciation of anime.
/end rant mode.

But if the asians didn't have to pay to watch their anime I'll be damned if I have to. I say put MORE anime on television.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Don't be too hasty in your TV judgement. TV anime may not be the same as the real thing, and yes it may even turn people off to anime, but at the same time it may be just what brings anime to a wider audience, one which could eventually argue for no editing, etc. and/or an anime channel.

Perhaps TV programs should be required to say that this program has been edited for the following reasons.....

before every anime, they're required to do it before TV movies, etc.

Yeah, amazing what can happen if a program has good writing and direction.

Unforetuantely, many American animation studios trying to mimic the success of anime are still just looking at the style and not the heart of anime. Some American stuff riding on the coat tails of the Anime boom might look cool (Titan A.E.) but they lack any substance to make them really enjoyable.

I know South Park, Simpsons, and Powerpuff Girls were or are still running currently on Japanese TV. However, Simpsons and South Park especially are both typically rewritten to cater to Japanese tastes in humor as a lot of the references in both these works would fly over the heads of the general Japanese audience. I have heard, however, that over all none of these shows are super popular, though they have loyal followers who seem entranced by the popularity of these shows in America.
