Playing Divx/Xvid on wmp

Postby Nappy » Thu Nov 21, 2002 8:28 pm

When I play divx and xvid files on wmp they can be really choppy, off sync, etc. So I have to play it on the divx player. I know my 2 of my friends have the same problem, but I'm told this is not a problem for others. Is it due to my 2 yr old computer, or something else?
I was also thinking that I bet alot of ppl download divx files and have these problems, and think nothings wrong and the vid just has really poor timing/quality.

The number #1 reasons for your divx file being out of synch are:

#1) Slow computer

#2) Crappy playback codec/filter

#3) Crappy directshow filters that autoload and mess with playback.

What type of computer do you have and what codec are you using to play back teh divx? Also some specs on the DivX files you try playing... Like say 640x480 on a 400Mhz K6-2 isn't going to work out.

well I got a p3 733, playing a 480x352. I don't know much about filters @_@ I just run wmp and it's like that, I just upgraded to 9.0 I was using 7.0 all this time, but I'm still getting these problems. Where would I find the playback codec etc. o_O

I am not sure in WMP7+ because it is lame...

Try getting ffdshow...

http://cutka.szm.sk/ffdshow/ ; sourceforge is down at the moment, so you might not be able to download it this instant.

is that a new player? I can play the divx/xvid files on the divx player. I was just wondering if other ppl have this problem, and it also makes me worry about other ppl seeing vids that are divx and seeing them completly wrong, as alot of ppl have wmp as a default.
