I have adobe premiere and in the past I've done easier special effects , is there a tutorial website with examples on how to do the more advanced effects without having to buy a book?

I can also recommend videocopilot.net. However, I recommend it with some reservations. What many people tend to do after they go through these tutorials is simply take what they learned and replicate it piece by piece, and that's not really the point. You should use the tutorials only as a way to learn how to use the tools and techniques for your own creations. We've all seen these tutorials and if you just put something from them in your video, exactly the way they showed you, it's gonna be pretty obvious. However, I won't deny that they do a good job of teaching what the various tools in After Effects do, and that's the main reason to go there.
