Well I'm 37. Probably one of the oldest editors and I've been editing longer than some of you've been alive! Not too sure if that is suppose to be bad or good :?

I remember when I made a capture card (yes, made from scratch) for my Apple II+ in the mid 80s. It had to be hardwired into a TV set, captured in a resolution of 120 x 80 (I think) and all in B&W (not even greyscale) only! And at that time I though that was every impressive

All the video editing I could do back then was move around pixles on the screen with a fading effect. These days things have slightly improved!

I'm 27. I didn't realize there were so many people the same age as me.

The capture component sat in a metal box. The circuit board was done with a method called wire rapping (you used a special tool to rap very thin wire onto specal long pined chip seats. The unit had about 12 chips and hundreds of wires. I then soldered wires to a TV set (the first one I burned out since I shorted it out (First time I saw a 12" long arc!). The interface into the computer was done by making a home made circuit baord (using acide to etch a copper plated board.... This was actually my grade 11 electronics project!

It took me 6 months to make it and then It was a bitch to make it work right.... Sure learned a lot though.....

Keep in mind that at that time, the Apple II computer was the most grahicallly advanced system. The PC was nothing more than an IBM machine using DOS 1.0 (and a 1/2 dozen or so programs for it!) You pretty much had to program everything for ot yourself.....

What's wrong with that? Browsing forums is a fun way to spend time. And we all normally have free time to spend at this time.

sure... It's amazing how your view on thing will change as you get older... Do you figure I should be spending my time in Bingo halls rather than doing something constructive live video editing? Or maybe I should just move into a nursing home already and get it over with!

1979 to 1988, but then who's counting.... BTW, just for comparison, I bought my Apple II back in 1981. The computer came with 16K (yes Kilobyte) of ram and nothing else. I used a B&W tv and a tape drive (before I got a disk drive). All this for about $1500 US (think about that with inflation!). When I got a floppy drive, it was the 5-1/2 type and each side of the floppy could hold about 60K worth of Data.

Now a days, the cheapest calculator is better than that!!!!!

Heh, sorry about that. I don't know you, it was lack of tact. Just when I hear that I can't help but think of 'comic book guy'.
